Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—

Now the men of Ephraim said to him,“ Why have you done this to us by not calling us when you went to fight with the Midianites?” And they reprimanded him sharply.

“ On the west side shall be the standard of the forces with Ephraim according to their armies, and the leader of the children of Ephraim shall be Elishama the son of Ammihud.”And his army was numbered at forty thousand five hundred.“ Next to him comes the tribe of Manasseh, and the leader of the children of Manasseh shall be Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.”And his army was numbered at thirty-two thousand two hundred.

“ Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,who may go out before them and go in before them, who may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be like sheep which have no shepherd.”And the Lord said to Moses:“ Take Joshua the son of Nun with you, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him;set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and inaugurate him in their sight.And you shall give some of your authority to him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire before the Lord for him by the judgment of the Urim. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, he and all the children of Israel with him— all the congregation.”So Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation.And he laid his hands on him and inaugurated him, just as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses.

Then the men of Ephraim gathered together, crossed over toward Zaphon, and said to Jephthah,“ Why did you cross over to fight against the people of Ammon, and did not call us to go with you? We will burn your house down on you with fire!”

And he answered,“ I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house have, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and have followed the Baals.Now therefore, send and gather all Israel to me on Mount Carmel, the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.”

So they left all the commandments of the Lord their God, made for themselves a molded image and two calves, made a wooden image and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.And they caused their sons and daughters to pass through the fire, practiced witchcraft and soothsaying, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger.Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them from His sight; there was none left but the tribe of Judah alone.

Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the mountains of Ephraim, and dwelt there. Also he went out from there and built Penuel.

And the standard of the camp of the children of Ephraim set out according to their armies; over their army was Elishama the son of Ammihud.
