I myself pledge security for him; you may hold me liable. If I do not bring him back to you and place him here before you, I will bear the blame before you all my life.

Indeed, your servant pledged security for the boy with my father, saying,‘ If I do not bring him back to you, then I will bear the blame before my father all my life.’

and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks of something better than Abel’s does.

But now Jesus has obtained a superior ministry, since the covenant that he mediates is also better and is enacted on better promises.For if that first covenant had been faultless, no one would have looked for a second one.But showing its fault, God says to them,“ Look, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will complete a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.“ It will not be like the covenant that I made with their fathers, on the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not continue in my covenant and I had no regard for them, says the Lord.“ For this is the covenant that I will establish with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and I will inscribe them on their hearts. And I will be their God and they will be my people.“ And there will be no need at all for each one to teach his countryman or each one to teach his brother saying,‘ Know the Lord,’ since they will all know me, from the least to the greatest.“ For I will be merciful toward their evil deeds, and their sins I will remember no longer.”

Now may the God of peace who by the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep, our Lord Jesus Christ,

In the same way, he also took the cup after supper, saying,“ This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, every time you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

My child, if you have made a pledge for your neighbor, and have become a guarantor for a stranger,

And in the same way he took the cup after they had eaten, saying,“ This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.

for this is my blood, the blood of the covenant, that is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

And so he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the eternal inheritance he has promised, since he died to set them free from the violations committed under the first covenant.For where there is a will, the death of the one who made it must be proven.For a will takes effect only at death, since it carries no force while the one who made it is alive.So even the first covenant was inaugurated with blood.For when Moses had spoken every command to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats with water and scarlet wool and hyssop and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,and said,“ This is the blood of the covenant that God has commanded you to keep.”And both the tabernacle and all the utensils of worship he likewise sprinkled with blood.Indeed according to the law almost everything was purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.So it was necessary for the sketches of the things in heaven to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves required better sacrifices than these.

Take a man’s garment when he has given security for a stranger, and when he gives surety for strangers, hold him in pledge.

He said to them,“ This is my blood, the blood of the covenant, that is poured out for many.

He will confirm a covenant with many for one week. But in the middle of that week he will bring sacrifices and offerings to a halt. On the wing of abominations will come one who destroys, until the decreed end is poured out on the one who destroys.”
