Certainly spending just one day in your temple courts is better than spending a thousand elsewhere. I would rather stand at the entrance to the temple of my God than live in the tents of the wicked.

So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; what is old has passed away– look, what is new has come!

Take heed, do not turn to evil, for because of this you have been tested by affliction.

Surely you put them in slippery places; you bring them down to ruin.How desolate they become in a mere moment! Terrifying judgments make their demise complete!They are like a dream after one wakes up. O Lord, when you awake you will despise them.

This brings you great joy, although you may have to suffer for a short time in various trials.Such trials show the proven character of your faith, which is much more valuable than gold– gold that is tested by fire, even though it is passing away– and will bring praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

For human anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness.

So now, listen to this, O one who lives so lavishly, who lives securely, who says to herself,‘ I am unique! No one can compare to me! I will never have to live as a widow; I will never lose my children.’Both of these will come upon you suddenly, in one day! You will lose your children and be widowed. You will be overwhelmed by these tragedies, despite your many incantations and your numerous amulets.

They allow their children to run like a flock; their little ones dance about.They sing to the accompaniment of tambourine and harp, and make merry to the sound of the flute.They live out their years in prosperity and go down to the grave in peace.

And I will say to myself,“ You have plenty of goods stored up for many years; relax, eat, drink, celebrate!”’But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life will be demanded back from you, but who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

Not only this, but we also rejoice in sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,

We ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith flourishes more and more and the love of each one of you all for one another is ever greater.As a result we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and afflictions you are enduring.This is evidence of God’s righteous judgment, to make you worthy of the kingdom of God, for which in fact you are suffering.For it is right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,

Take your share of suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.No one in military service gets entangled in matters of everyday life; otherwise he will not please the one who recruited him.Also, if anyone competes as an athlete, he will not be crowned as the winner unless he competes according to the rules.The farmer who works hard ought to have the first share of the crops.Think about what I am saying and the Lord will give you understanding of all this.Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David; such is my gospel,for which I suffer hardship to the point of imprisonment as a criminal, but God’s message is not imprisoned!So I endure all things for the sake of those chosen by God, that they too may obtain salvation in Christ Jesus and its eternal glory.

But remember the former days when you endured a harsh conflict of suffering after you were enlightened.

My heart palpitates, I shake in fear; the twilight I desired has brought me terror.

You have lived indulgently and luxuriously on the earth. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.

So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me, a prisoner for his sake, but by God’s power accept your share of suffering for the gospel.

But Abraham said,‘ Child, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things and Lazarus likewise bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in anguish.

as well as the persecutions and sufferings that happened to me in Antioch, in Iconium, and in Lystra. I endured these persecutions and the Lord delivered me from them all.Now in fact all who want to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

When he saw one of them being hurt unfairly, Moses came to his defense and avenged the person who was mistreated by striking down the Egyptian.He thought his own people would understand that God was delivering them through him, but they did not understand.

Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will trouble, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?As it is written,“ For your sake we encounter death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”No, in all these things we have complete victory through him who loved us!For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor heavenly rulers, nor things that are present, nor things to come, nor powers,nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

But he has no root in himself and does not endure; when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he falls away.

The nobles of the nations assemble, along with the people of the God of Abraham, for God has authority over the rulers of the earth. He is highly exalted!

They were stoned, sawed apart, murdered with the sword; they went about in sheepskins and goatskins; they were destitute, afflicted, ill- treated

And if children, then heirs( namely, heirs of God and also fellow heirs with Christ)– if indeed we suffer with him so we may also be glorified with him.For I consider that our present sufferings cannot even be compared to the glory that will be revealed to us.

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you, and I fill up in my physical body– for the sake of his body, the church– what is lacking in the sufferings of Christ.

except that the Holy Spirit warns me in town after town that imprisonment and persecutions are waiting for me.But I do not consider my life worth anything to myself, so that I may finish my task and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the good news of God’s grace.

Consequently a Sabbath rest remains for the people of God.
