He was crying, and she felt sorry for him.“ This is one of the Hebrew babies,” she said.Then his sister asked Pharaoh’s daughter,“ Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?”“ Yes, go,” she answered. So the girl went and got the baby’s mother.Pharaoh’s daughter said to her,“ Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.” So the woman took the baby and nursed him.When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying,“ I drew him out of the water.”

“ I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.

Do not be afraid, you worm Jacob, little Israel, do not fear, for I myself will help you,” declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?

So we say with confidence,“ The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him,“ King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter.If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand.But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

“ I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mere mortals, human beings who are but grass,

In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?

“ Hear me, you who know what is right, you people who have taken my instruction to heart: Do not fear the reproach of mere mortals or be terrified by their insults.

“ Do not call conspiracy everything this people calls a conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it.The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread.
