In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest:

A message from the Lord came to Haggai the prophet. Haggai gave it to Zerubbabel and Joshua. Zerubbabel was governor of Judah and the son of Shealtiel. Joshua was high priest and the son of Jozadak. The message came on the first day of the sixth month of the second year that Darius was king of Persia. Here is what Haggai said.

In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest:

On August 29 of the second year of King Darius’s reign, the Lord gave a message through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Jeshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest.

大利乌王第二年九月二十四日，耶和华的话临到哈该先知说：

约萨达的儿子耶书亚和作祭司的亲族，撒拉铁的儿子所罗巴伯和他的兄弟都起来，建筑以色列神的祭坛，为要照着神人摩西律法书上所写的，在祭坛上献燔祭。

众人来到耶路撒冷神的殿以后，第二年二月，撒拉铁的儿子所罗巴伯、约萨达的儿子耶书亚和他们其余的兄弟，就是祭司、利未人和所有从被掳之地回到耶路撒冷的人，就开始动工建造；又委派二十岁以上的利未人，监督耶和华殿的工程。

毗大雅的儿子是所罗巴伯和示每；所罗巴伯的儿子是米书兰和哈拿尼雅，还有他们的妹妹示罗密。

被掳的耶哥尼雅的儿子是撒拉铁、

那时，撒拉铁的儿子所罗巴伯、约撒答的儿子大祭司约书亚和所有余剩的子民，都听从了耶和华他们神的话，听从了耶和华他们神所差来的哈该先知的话。众民在耶和华面前都存着敬畏的心。

于是耶和华激发了撒拉铁的儿子、犹大省长所罗巴伯的心，和约撒答的儿子大祭司约书亚的心，以及所有余剩子民的心，他们就来兴工建造万军之耶和华他们神的殿宇。

犹大人的长老因着哈该先知和易多的孙子撒迦利亚的信息，迅速重建。他们遵照以色列神的命令，波斯王古列、大利乌和亚达薛西的命令，完成重建圣殿的工作。

他们是跟所罗巴伯、耶书亚、尼希米、亚撒利雅、拉米、拿哈玛尼、末底改、必珊、米斯毗列、比革瓦伊、尼宏和巴拿一同回来的。以色列民的人数记在下面：

耶和华说：“所罗巴伯啊！现在你要刚强。”耶和华说：“约撒答的儿子大祭司约书亚啊！你要刚强；这地的一切子民啊！你们也要刚强，并且要作工。”万军之耶和华说：“因为我与你们同在。

与撒拉铁的儿子所罗巴伯和耶书亚一起上来的祭司和利未人有以下这些人：祭司有西莱雅、耶利米、以斯拉、

他收复以色列的边境，从哈马口直到亚拉巴海，正如耶和华以色列的神的话，就是藉着他的仆人迦特希弗人亚米太的儿子约拿先知所说的；

亚撒利雅生西莱雅，西莱雅生约萨答；在耶和华藉尼布甲尼撒掳掠犹大人和耶路撒冷人的时候，这约萨答也被掳去了。（本章1~15节在《马索拉文本》为5:27~41）

就前来见所罗巴伯和众族长，对他们说：“请让我们与你们一起建造吧！因为我们也像你们那样寻求你们的神。自从亚述王以撒哈顿把我们带上这里的日子以来，我们一直向他献祭。”

自从我奉命在犹大地作他们省长的日子以来，就是从亚达薛西王二十年，直到三十二年，共十二年，我和我的兄弟都没有吃过省长的俸禄。

他对我说：“这是耶和华对所罗巴伯所说的话：‘不是倚靠权势，不是倚靠能力，而是倚靠我的灵。’这是万军之耶和华说的。大山啊！你算得什么？你在所罗巴伯面前必夷为平地！他必安放那块平顶的石头，必有欢呼的声音说：‘愿恩惠、恩惠归与这殿（“这殿”原文作“她”）。’”耶和华的话又临到我说：“所罗巴伯的手奠立了这殿的根基，他的手也必完成这工；这样，你就知道万军之耶和华差遣了我到你们这里来。谁藐视这日子，以为所作的是小事呢？他们看见所罗巴伯手里拿着测锤，就必欢喜。”是耶和华的这七眼，遍察全地。

同月二十四日，耶和华的话再次临到哈该，说：“你要向犹大省长所罗巴伯说：‘我要震动天地，我必倾覆列国的宝座，消灭外族万国的势力，我必推翻战车和驾车的人；马匹和骑马的都必跌倒；各人必死在自己兄弟的刀下。’万军之耶和华说：‘撒拉铁的儿子，我的仆人所罗巴伯啊！到那日我必提拔你。’耶和华说：‘我必以你为印记。’万军之耶和华说：‘因为我拣选了你。’”大利乌王第二年八月，耶和华的话临到易多的孙子、比利家的儿子撒迦利亚先知，说：

以色列众人把他埋葬了，又为他举哀，好像耶和华藉着他的仆人亚希雅先知所说的话一样。

所以，在耶路撒冷的神殿的工程就停止了，直到波斯王大利乌在位的第二年。那时，哈该先知和易多的儿子撒迦利亚先知奉以色列神的名，向在犹大地和耶路撒冷的犹大人传讲信息。于是，撒拉铁的儿子所罗巴伯和约萨达的儿子耶书亚都起来，开始重建在耶路撒冷的神的殿，神的先知们和他们在一起，帮助他们。当时，河西那边的总督达乃和示他．波斯乃，以及他们的同僚来到他们那里，这样问他们说：“谁下令叫你们重建这殿，完成这工程呢？”

七月二十一日，耶和华的话临到哈该先知说：“你要对撒拉铁的儿子犹大省长所罗巴伯，和约撒答的儿子大祭司约书亚，以及所有余剩的子民，说：

省长尼希米和祭司兼经学家以斯拉，以及教导人民明白律法的利未人对众民说：“今天是耶和华你们的神的圣日，你们不要悲哀哭泣。”因为众人听见律法书上的话，都哭了。

省长告诉他们不可吃至圣之物，直等到有能用乌陵和土明来决疑的祭司兴起来。

耶书亚生约雅金，约雅金生以利亚实，以利亚实生耶何耶大，

波斯王古列命令司库官米提利达把这些器皿拿出来，按数交给犹大的领袖设巴萨。

摩西说：“主啊，请你差派你愿意差派的人。”
