And the Lord gave them victory over their enemies. The Israelites chased them as far as Greater Sidon and Misrephoth maim, and eastward into the valley of Mizpah, until not one enemy warrior was left alive.

But the Lord sent his servant Moses, along with Aaron, whom he had chosen.

When they brought them out, Joshua told the commanders of his army,“ Come and put your feet on the kings’ necks.” And they did as they were told.

Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms. InterludeOur God is a God who saves! I have destroyed all who hated me.They called for help, but no one came to their rescue. They even cried to the Lord, but he refused to answer.I ground them as fine as dust in the wind. I swept them into the gutter like dirt.You gave me victory over my accusers. You appointed me ruler over nations; people I don’t even know now serve me.As soon as they hear of me, they submit; foreign nations cringe before me.They all lose their courage and come trembling from their strongholds.

Joshua slaughtered all the other kings and their people, completely destroying them, just as Moses, the servant of the Lord, had commanded.

But Moses told the people,“ Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again.The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”

And that night at midnight, the Lord struck down all the firstborn sons in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sat on his throne, to the firstborn son of the prisoner in the dungeon. Even the firstborn of their livestock were killed.Pharaoh and all his officials and all the people of Egypt woke up during the night, and loud wailing was heard throughout the land of Egypt. There was not a single house where someone had not died.

O God, when you led your people out from Egypt, when you marched through the dry wasteland, Interlude

Joshua conquered all these kings and their land in a single campaign, for the Lord, the God of Israel, was fighting for his people.

Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord:“ I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously; he has hurled both horse and rider into the sea.The Lord is my strength and my song; he has given me victory. This is my God, and I will praise him— my father’s God, and I will exalt him!

You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds.

As the Amorites retreated down the road from Beth horon, the Lord destroyed them with a terrible hailstorm from heaven that continued until they reached Azekah. The hail killed more of the enemy than the Israelites killed with the sword.

The Lord gives his people strength. He is a safe fortress for his anointed king.

You split the sea by your strength and smashed the heads of the sea monsters.You crushed the heads of Leviathan and let the desert animals eat him.

Now I know that the Lord rescues his anointed king. He will answer him from his holy heaven and rescue him by his great power.

Moses and Aaron were among his priests; Samuel also called on his name. They cried to the Lord for help, and he answered them.

Long ago you spoke in a vision to your faithful people. You said,“ I have raised up a warrior. I have selected him from the common people to be king.I have found my servant David. I have anointed him with my holy oil.I will steady him with my hand; with my powerful arm I will make him strong.

Then they remembered those days of old when Moses led his people out of Egypt. They cried out,“ Where is the one who brought Israel through the sea, with Moses as their shepherd? Where is the one who sent his Holy Spirit to be among his people?
