When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said,“ What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him?”

Now that their father was dead, Joseph’s brothers were worried. They said,“ Remember all the bad things we did to Joseph? What if he decides to hold those things against us? What if he pays us back for them?”

When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said,“ It may be that Joseph will hate us and pay us back for all the evil that we did to him.”

But now that their father was dead, Joseph’s brothers became fearful.“ Now Joseph will show his anger and pay us back for all the wrong we did to him,” they said.

When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said to one another,“ If Joseph is holding a grudge against us, he will certainly repay us for all the suffering we caused him.”

When Joseph’s brothers had seen that their father was dead, they said,“ What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back in full for all the wrong which we did to him!”

There were they in great fear,[ where] no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth[ against] thee: thou hast put[ them] to shame, because God hath despised them.

And they said one to another, We[ are] verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required.

There were they in great fear: for God[ is] in the generation of the righteous.

And upon them that are left[ alive] of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.

And he put them all together into ward three days.

Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty[ pieces] of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.

Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and[ their] thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
