When the Canaanites who lived there saw the mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said,“ The Egyptians are holding a solemn ceremony of mourning.” That is why that place near the Jordan is called Abel Mizraim.

The Canaanites living in that area saw how sad all of them were. They said,“ The Egyptians are having a very special service for the dead.” That’s why that place near the Jordan River is called Abel of the Egyptians.

When the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning on the threshing floor of Atad, they said,“ This is a grievous mourning by the Egyptians.” Therefore the place was named Abel-mizraim; it is beyond the Jordan.

The local residents, the Canaanites, watched them mourning at the threshing floor of Atad. Then they renamed that place( which is near the Jordan) Abel mizraim, for they said,“ This is a place of deep mourning for these Egyptians.”

亚伯拉罕对他说：“你要谨慎，不要带我的儿子回那里去。

迦南生长子西顿，又生赫和耶布斯人、亚摩利人、革迦撒人、希未人、亚基人、西尼人、亚瓦底人、洗玛利人、哈马人，后来迦南的诸族分散了。迦南的境界是从西顿向基拉耳的路上，直到迦萨，又向所多玛、蛾摩拉、押玛、洗扁的路上，直到拉沙。

金老鼠的数目是照非利士五个首领的城邑，就是坚固的城邑和乡村，以及大磐石。这磐石是放耶和华约柜的，到今日还在伯示麦人约书亚的田间。

雅各对西缅和利未说：“你们连累我，使我在这地的居民中，就是在迦南人和比利洗人中，有了臭名。我的人丁既然稀少，他们必聚集来击杀我，我和全家的人都必灭绝。”

当时，迦南人与比利洗人在那地居住。亚伯兰的牧人和罗得的牧人相争。

这二山岂不是在约旦河那边，日落之处，在住亚拉巴的迦南人之地与吉甲相对，靠近摩利橡树吗？

你且上毗斯迦山顶去，向东、西、南、北举目观望，因为你必不能过这约旦河。

他们到了约旦河外、亚达的禾场，就在那里大大地号啕痛哭。约瑟为他父亲哀哭了七天。

求你容我过去，看约旦河那边的美地，就是那佳美的山地和黎巴嫩。’
