我这样说，不是吩咐你们，而是藉着别人的热心来考验你们的爱心是否真实。

你不可听从那先知或作梦的人的话；因为耶和华你们的神试验你们，要知道你们是不是一心一意爱耶和华你们的神。

我要这样试试你们：我指着法老的性命起誓，如果你们最小的弟弟不到这里来，你们就决不得离开这里。你们可以派你们中间一个人回去，把你们的弟弟带来；其余的人都要囚禁起来，好证明你们的话真实不真实。如果不真实，我指着法老的性命起誓，你们就是间谍。”

他们就给约瑟单独摆了一席，给那些人另外摆了一席，又给那些与约瑟一同吃饭的埃及人摆了一席，因为埃及人不能与希伯来人一同吃饭，这是埃及人所厌恶的。

“现在，我差派你们出去，好像羊进到狼群中间；所以你们要像蛇一样机警，像鸽子一样纯洁。

他在旷野把你的列祖不认识的吗哪赐给你吃，是要使你受苦，要试炼你，使你终久得到福乐；

你也要记念耶和华你的神这四十年在旷野引导你的一切路程，为要使你受苦，要试炼你，要知道你心里怎样，看看你肯守他的诫命不肯。
