我說這話並非命令你們，而是藉著別人的熱心考驗一下你們愛心的真偽。

但你們一定要帶你們最小的弟弟回來，以證實你們說的是實話，這樣你們就不會被處死。」他們同意了，

你們也不可聽從他們。因為這是你們的上帝耶和華在試驗你們，要看看你們是否全心全意地愛祂。

我以法老的性命起誓，你們最小的弟弟不來這裡，你們都不能走，這是對你們的驗證。你們派一個人回去把你們的弟弟帶來，其他人都要被囚禁在這裡，我要看看你們說的是真還是假。要是你們說的是假話，我以法老的性命起誓，你們一定是奸細。」

約瑟自己一桌，他的弟兄們一桌，那些和他們一起吃飯的埃及人一桌，因為埃及人厭惡和希伯來人同席。

「聽著，我差你們出去，就好像使羊走進狼群一般。所以，你們要像蛇一樣機靈，像鴿子一樣馴良。

在曠野中把你們祖先從未見過的嗎哪賜給你們吃，為要磨煉你們、考驗你們，使你們最終得到益處。

要記住這四十年來你們的上帝耶和華怎樣在曠野引領你們，祂磨煉你們、考驗你們，好知道你們的心意如何、肯不肯遵守祂的誡命。
