He instructed them:“ This is what you are to say to my lord Esau:‘ Your servant Jacob says, I have been staying with Laban and have remained there till now.

Jacob told the messengers what to do. He said,“ Here’s what you must tell my master Esau.‘ Your servant Jacob says,“ I’ve been staying with Laban. I’ve remained there until now.

instructing them,“ Thus you shall say to my lord Esau: Thus says your servant Jacob,‘ I have sojourned with Laban and stayed until now.

He told them,“ Give this message to my master Esau:‘ Humble greetings from your servant Jacob. Until now I have been living with Uncle Laban,

He commanded them,“ You are to say to my lord Esau,‘ This is what your servant Jacob says. I have been staying with Laban and have been delayed until now.

He commanded them, saying,“ This is what you shall say to my lord Esau:‘ Your servant Jacob says the following:“ I have resided with Laban, and stayed until now;

因為凡高抬自己的，必要降卑；自己謙卑的，必要升高。”

柔和的回答使烈怒消退，暴戾的話激動怒氣。

你就要回答：‘是你僕人雅各的，是送給我主以掃的禮物，他自己也在我們後面。’”

像撒拉聽從亞伯拉罕，稱他為主一樣；你們若行善，不怕任何恐嚇，就是撒拉的女兒了。

於是他們腰束麻布，頭套繩索，來見以色列王，對他說：“你的僕人便．哈達說：‘求你使我的性命存活！’”亞哈說：“他還活著嗎？他是我的兄弟！”

“我主請聽，你在我們中間是一位尊貴的王子，你可以在我們最好的墳地裡埋葬你死了的人，我們必沒有人阻止你在他的墳地埋葬你死了的人。”

以掃又問：“我遇見的這一群牲畜，是甚麼意思呢？”雅各回答：“是要討我主喜悅的。”

掃羅認出是大衛的聲音，就說：“我兒大衛啊！這是你的聲音嗎？”大衛說：“我主我王啊！是我的聲音。”

如果掌權者向你發怒，你不要離開原位，因為柔順能免大過。

以撒回答以掃，說：“我已經立他作你的主人，又把他所有的兄弟給了他作僕人，並且把五穀和美酒供給他了。我兒啊，我還可以為你作甚麼呢？”

你若行得好，豈不可以抬起頭來嗎？你若行得不好，罪就伏在門口了；它要纏住你，你卻要制伏它。”

願萬民服事你，願萬族向你下拜，願你作你兄弟的主人，願你母親的子孫向你下拜。咒詛你的，願他受咒詛；給你祝福的，願他蒙福。”

我兒，既然你落在你朋友的手中，就要這樣行，好解救你自己，你要自己降卑，去懇求你的朋友。

亞倫回答：“求我主不要發烈怒，你知道這人民傾向罪惡。

我擁有牛、驢、羊群、僕婢，現在派人來報告我主，希望得到你的歡心。’”
