那天以色列人的處境窘迫，因為掃羅讓軍兵起過誓說：「在我報復了仇敵以先、在傍晚之前吃東西的人是受詛咒的！」所以軍兵中沒有一個人吃東西。那整個地方，進入森林，地面上都有蜂蜜。當軍兵進入森林，看哪，有蜂蜜流淌，但沒有人用手取蜜放入嘴裡，因為他們害怕所起的誓。而約拿單沒有聽見他父親讓軍兵起誓，所以他伸出手裡的杖，把杖尖蘸在有蜜的蜂巢裡，然後用手取蜜放入嘴裡，眼睛就明亮了。軍兵中有人告訴他說：「你父親讓大家鄭重起誓說：『今天吃東西的人，是受詛咒的！』所以軍兵就疲乏了。」約拿單說：「我父親給這地帶來了麻煩。你們看，我嘗了一點這蜂蜜，眼睛就明亮了。

現在，你因為切切思念你的父家，一定要走，但為什麼偷了我的神像呢？」

說：「我的兄弟們，請你們不要這樣作惡。

拉班就帶著自己的兄弟們追趕雅各，追了七天的路程，在基列山追上了他。

從你哪個僕人那裡找到杯子，他就要死，而且我們其餘的人就都作我主的奴僕。」管家說：「那麼就照著你們的話做吧！只是從誰那裡找到杯子，誰就作我的奴僕，而你們其餘的人都沒有罪。」於是他們急忙把自己的袋子卸在地上，各人都打開自己的袋子。管家就搜查，從年長的開始，到最小的為止；結果，那杯子在便雅憫的袋子裡找到了。

當時拉班去剪羊毛，拉結就偷了她父親的家族神像。

看哪，你們可以在耶和華和他的受膏者面前指控我：我奪取過誰的牛，奪取過誰的驢子？我欺壓過誰，壓迫過誰？又從誰的手中收取過賄賂，以致我的眼睛被蒙住了？如果是這樣，我必歸還你們。」他們說：「你沒有欺壓過我們，沒有壓迫過我們，也沒有從任何人手中收取過什麼。」撒母耳對他們說：「今天，耶和華在你們中間作見證，他的受膏者也作見證：你們在我的手中沒有找到什麼。」他們說：「願他作見證！」

我們這樣謹慎，免得有人在我們所經手的這豐厚之事上挑剔我們，因為我們不僅要敬重主看為美善的事，也要敬重人看為美善的事。

難道我曾經藉著派到你們那裡去的人，對不起你們嗎？我鼓勵提多去，又打發那位弟兄與他一起去。難道提多對不起你們嗎？我們行事，難道不是同一個心靈嗎？難道不是同一個步調嗎？你們一直以為我們是在向你們申辯嗎？我們是在基督裡，在神面前說話。各位蒙愛的人哪，這一切都是為了造就你們。

日後你來查看我所得的工酬時，要是我這裡的山羊中有任何一隻不是有點、有斑的，綿羊羔中有任何一隻不是黑色的，就算是我偷來的。這樣我的公義就為我辯護了。」

亞伯蘭就對羅得說：「但願你我之間，你的牧人和我的牧人之間不要有爭吵，因為我們是一家人。
