她又再度懷孕，生了一個兒子，就說：「這次我丈夫一定會依戀我，因為我給他生了三個兒子。」於是，他給孩子取名叫利未。

Again she conceived, and when she gave birth to a son she said,“ Now at last my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” So he was named Levi.

She became pregnant again. She had a son. Then she said,“ Now at last my husband will value me. I have had three sons by him.” So the boy was named Levi.

Again she conceived and bore a son, and said,“ Now this time my husband will be attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.

Then she became pregnant a third time and gave birth to another son. He was named Levi, for she said,“ Surely this time my husband will feel affection for me, since I have given him three sons!”

She conceived again, gave birth to a son, and said,“ At last, my husband will become attached to me because I have borne three sons for him.” Therefore he was named Levi.

And she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and said,“ Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore he was named Levi.

She conceived again and bore a son, and said,“ Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.

And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have borne him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.

She conceived again, gave birth to a son, and said,“ At last, my husband will become attached to me because I have borne three sons for him.” Therefore he was named Levi.

便站在營門口對會眾說：「凡跟從耶和華的，都站到我這邊來。」所有的利未人都聚集到摩西身邊。摩西對他們說：「以色列的上帝耶和華這樣說，『你們各人帶著刀，從這個門到那個門，走遍整個營，不論遇見的是兄弟、夥伴還是鄰居，只管殺他們。』」利未人便照摩西的話去做。那一天，約有三千人被殺。摩西對利未人說：「今天你們已經把自己奉獻給耶和華了，因為你們大義滅親，祂必賜福給你們。」

「西緬和利未串通一氣，依仗刀劍，殘暴不仁。我的靈啊，不要與他們同謀。我的心啊，不要與他們聯合。他們洩憤殺人，隨意砍斷牛腿的筋。他們狂暴兇殘，該受咒詛！我要使他們分散在雅各的子孫中，散居在以色列各地。

你和你兒子在安放約櫃的聖幕供職時，要把你們利未支派的親族也一同帶去，讓他們協助你。他們要遵守你的吩咐，看守整個聖幕，但不可接近聖所的器具和祭壇，以免他們和你們都死亡。他們要協助你，負責看守聖幕，辦理聖幕的一切事務。外人不可靠近。

到了第三天，他們傷口正疼痛的時候，雅各的兩個兒子——底娜的哥哥西緬和利未拿著利劍，乘眾人沒有防備，潛入城中，殺掉了所有的男子，

摩西祝福利未支派說：「耶和華啊，求你把土明和烏陵賜給虔誠的利未人，你曾經在瑪撒試驗他們，在米利巴泉邊與他們爭論。為了聽從你的話，遵守你的約，他們不畏冒犯父母，捨棄弟兄，拋下兒女。他們把你的典章傳授給雅各，把你的律法傳授給以色列；他們要把香獻在你面前，把全牲燔祭獻在你的壇上。

有一個利未族人跟他同族的女子結婚。

利未的兒子是革順、哥轄和米拉利。

利亞生了雅各的長子呂便、西緬、利未、猶大、以薩迦和西布倫。
