第二天，亞伯拉罕清早起來，把食物和一皮袋水放在夏甲肩上，讓她和孩子離開。夏甲在別示巴的曠野流浪。

每當他們撒種的時候，米甸人、亞瑪力人及東方人就前來進犯，

「你們中間做父親的，如果孩子要餅，你會給他石頭嗎？要魚，你會給他蛇嗎？要雞蛋，你會給他蠍子嗎？你們雖然邪惡，尚且知道把好東西給兒女，天父豈不更要賜聖靈給那些求祂的人嗎？」

那時候，以色列沒有王。有一個利未人住在以法蓮山區的偏遠地帶，他娶了猶大伯利恆的一個女子為妾。那女子不忠，離開丈夫回到猶大伯利恆的父親家，住了四個月。

留他在家裡小住。他便在那裡住了三天，一起吃住。

於是拉結把婢女辟拉給丈夫做妾，雅各和辟拉同房。

七千隻羊、三千隻駱駝、五百對牛、五百頭母驢及許多僕婢。他在東方人中最富有。

那天晚上，雅各起來帶著兩個妻子、兩個婢女和十一個兒子渡過雅博渡口。

這樣，你們才是天父的孩子。因為祂讓陽光照好人也照壞人，降雨給義人也給惡人。

卻從未停止用美善的事證實自己的存在。祂常施恩惠，降下甘霖，賞賜豐年，又叫你們衣食飽足，滿心喜樂。」

耶和華啊，求你伸手救我脫離這些人，脫離這些只在今生有福分的世人。你使他們財寶無數。他們兒女眾多，還把財富留給子孫。但我因持守公義必見你的面；我醒來見到你就心滿意足了。

於是，撒萊把埃及婢女夏甲給亞伯蘭做妾。那時亞伯蘭已經在迦南住了十年。

亞伯拉罕又娶了基土拉。

以色列在那裡居住時，呂便和父親的妾辟拉通姦，以色列也知道這件事。雅各有十二個兒子。

烏斯有一個人名叫約伯，他純全正直，敬畏上帝，遠離罪惡。

利亞見自己不再生育，就把婢女悉帕給雅各做妾。
