Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.

We who are strong must be considerate of those who are sensitive about things like this. We must not just please ourselves.

Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth.

Don’t think of them as enemies, but warn them as you would a brother or sister.

My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back,you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.

And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering.Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.

Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong.

Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.

Accept other believers who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them about what they think is right or wrong.

Now, however, it is time to forgive and comfort him. Otherwise he may be overcome by discouragement.

Now I, Paul, appeal to you with the gentleness and kindness of Christ— though I realize you think I am timid in person and bold only when I write from far away.

I will search for my lost ones who strayed away, and I will bring them safely home again. I will bandage the injured and strengthen the weak. But I will destroy those who are fat and powerful. I will feed them, yes— feed them justice!

If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.

Which do you choose? Should I come with a rod to punish you, or should I come with love and a gentle spirit?

With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees.Say to those with fearful hearts,“ Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.”

“ If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost?And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety nine that didn’t wander away!In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish.“ If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back.

Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.

Then he added,“ Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture:‘ I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”

“ In the past you have encouraged many people; you have strengthened those who were weak.Your words have supported those who were falling; you encouraged those with shaky knees.

Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. Afterward, you should come together again so that Satan won’t be able to tempt you because of your lack of self control.

Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others.

“ But his father said to the servants,‘ Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet.And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast,for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.“ Meanwhile, the older son was in the fields working. When he returned home, he heard music and dancing in the house,and he asked one of the servants what was going on.‘ Your brother is back,’ he was told,‘ and your father has killed the fattened calf. We are celebrating because of his safe return.’“ The older brother was angry and wouldn’t go in. His father came out and begged him,but he replied,‘ All these years I’ve slaved for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends.Yet when this son of yours comes back after squandering your money on prostitutes, you celebrate by killing the fattened calf!’“ His father said to him,‘ Look, dear son, you have always stayed by me, and everything I have is yours.We had to celebrate this happy day. For your brother was dead and has come back to life! He was lost, but now he is found!’”

Late one afternoon, after his midday rest, David got out of bed and was walking on the roof of the palace. As he looked out over the city, he noticed a woman of unusual beauty taking a bath.He sent someone to find out who she was, and he was told,“ She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.”Then David sent messengers to get her; and when she came to the palace, he slept with her. She had just completed the purification rites after having her menstrual period. Then she returned home.Later, when Bathsheba discovered that she was pregnant, she sent David a message, saying,“ I’m pregnant.”Then David sent word to Joab:“ Send me Uriah the Hittite.” So Joab sent him to David.When Uriah arrived, David asked him how Joab and the army were getting along and how the war was progressing.Then he told Uriah,“ Go on home and relax.” David even sent a gift to Uriah after he had left the palace.But Uriah didn’t go home. He slept that night at the palace entrance with the king’s palace guard.When David heard that Uriah had not gone home, he summoned him and asked,“ What’s the matter? Why didn’t you go home last night after being away for so long?”Uriah replied,“ The Ark and the armies of Israel and Judah are living in tents, and Joab and my master’s men are camping in the open fields. How could I go home to wine and dine and sleep with my wife? I swear that I would never do such a thing.”“ Well, stay here today,” David told him,“ and tomorrow you may return to the army.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day and the next.Then David invited him to dinner and got him drunk. But even then he couldn’t get Uriah to go home to his wife. Again he slept at the palace entrance with the king’s palace guard.So the next morning David wrote a letter to Joab and gave it to Uriah to deliver.The letter instructed Joab,“ Station Uriah on the front lines where the battle is fiercest. Then pull back so that he will be killed.”So Joab assigned Uriah to a spot close to the city wall where he knew the enemy’s strongest men were fighting.And when the enemy soldiers came out of the city to fight, Uriah the Hittite was killed along with several other Israelite soldiers.Then Joab sent a battle report to David.He told his messenger,“ Report all the news of the battle to the king.But he might get angry and ask,‘ Why did the troops go so close to the city? Didn’t they know there would be shooting from the walls?Wasn’t Abimelech son of Gideon killed at Thebez by a woman who threw a millstone down on him from the wall? Why would you get so close to the wall?’ Then tell him,‘ Uriah the Hittite was killed, too.’”So the messenger went to Jerusalem and gave a complete report to David.“ The enemy came out against us in the open fields,” he said.“ And as we chased them back to the city gate,the archers on the wall shot arrows at us. Some of the king’s men were killed, including Uriah the Hittite.”“ Well, tell Joab not to be discouraged,” David said.“ The sword devours this one today and that one tomorrow! Fight harder next time, and conquer the city!”When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband was dead, she mourned for him.When the period of mourning was over, David sent for her and brought her to the palace, and she became one of his wives. Then she gave birth to a son. But the Lord was displeased with what David had done.So the Lord sent Nathan the prophet to tell David this story:“ There were two men in a certain town. One was rich, and one was poor.The rich man owned a great many sheep and cattle.The poor man owned nothing but one little lamb he had bought. He raised that little lamb, and it grew up with his children. It ate from the man’s own plate and drank from his cup. He cuddled it in his arms like a baby daughter.One day a guest arrived at the home of the rich man. But instead of killing an animal from his own flock or herd, he took the poor man’s lamb and killed it and prepared it for his guest.”David was furious.“ As surely as the Lord lives,” he vowed,“ any man who would do such a thing deserves to die!He must repay four lambs to the poor man for the one he stole and for having no pity.”Then Nathan said to David,“ You are that man! The Lord, the God of Israel, says: I anointed you king of Israel and saved you from the power of Saul.I gave you your master’s house and his wives and the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. And if that had not been enough, I would have given you much, much more.Why, then, have you despised the word of the Lord and done this horrible deed? For you have murdered Uriah the Hittite with the sword of the Ammonites and stolen his wife.From this time on, your family will live by the sword because you have despised me by taking Uriah’s wife to be your own.“ This is what the Lord says: Because of what you have done, I will cause your own household to rebel against you. I will give your wives to another man before your very eyes, and he will go to bed with them in public view.You did it secretly, but I will make this happen to you openly in the sight of all Israel.”Then David confessed to Nathan,“ I have sinned against the Lord.” Nathan replied,“ Yes, but the Lord has forgiven you, and you won’t die for this sin.Nevertheless, because you have shown utter contempt for the word of the Lord by doing this, your child will die.”After Nathan returned to his home, the Lord sent a deadly illness to the child of David and Uriah’s wife.

If you claim to be a prophet or think you are spiritual, you should recognize that what I am saying is a command from the Lord himself.

So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

But when Peter came to Antioch, I had to oppose him to his face, for what he did was very wrong.When he first arrived, he ate with the Gentile believers, who were not circumcised. But afterward, when some friends of James came, Peter wouldn’t eat with the Gentiles anymore. He was afraid of criticism from these people who insisted on the necessity of circumcision.As a result, other Jewish believers followed Peter’s hypocrisy, and even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.

“ If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it?And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders.When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying,‘ Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!

gentleness, and self control. There is no law against these things!

Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.

Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.

As he was approaching the border of Egypt, Abram said to his wife, Sarai,“ Look, you are a very beautiful woman.When the Egyptians see you, they will say,‘ This is his wife. Let’s kill him; then we can have her!’So please tell them you are my sister. Then they will spare my life and treat me well because of their interest in you.”

Then he and Aaron summoned the people to come and gather at the rock.“ Listen, you rebels!” he shouted.“ Must we bring you water from this rock?”Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with the staff, and water gushed out. So the entire community and their livestock drank their fill.But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron,“ Because you did not trust me enough to demonstrate my holiness to the people of Israel, you will not lead them into the land I am giving them!”This place was known as the waters of Meribah( which means“ arguing”) because there the people of Israel argued with the Lord, and there he demonstrated his holiness among them.

After the flood, Noah began to cultivate the ground, and he planted a vineyard.One day he drank some wine he had made, and he became drunk and lay naked inside his tent.Ham, the father of Canaan, saw that his father was naked and went outside and told his brothers.Then Shem and Japheth took a robe, held it over their shoulders, and backed into the tent to cover their father. As they did this, they looked the other way so they would not see him naked.When Noah woke up from his stupor, he learned what Ham, his youngest son, had done.

Suddenly, Jesus’ words flashed through Peter’s mind:“ Before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.” And he went away, weeping bitterly.

Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in Christ.

Meanwhile, Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant girl came over and said to him,“ You were one of those with Jesus the Galilean.”
