For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

蓋肉體所欲、逆聖神、聖神所欲、逆肉體、二者相敵、致爾不能為所欲為、

蓋情慾長則靈心消、靈心長則情慾消；兩者相敵、致爾心有餘而力不足。

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

The desires controlled by sin do not want what the Spirit delights in. And the Spirit does not want what the desires controlled by sin delight in. The two are at war with each other. That’s why you are not supposed to do whatever you want.

The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want.

For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, in order to keep you from doing whatever you want.

For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are contrary the one to the other; that ye may not do the things that ye would.

My soul is consumed with longing for your rules at all times.

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says,“ He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”?But he gives more grace. Therefore it says,“ God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.

Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

I will run in the way of your commandments when you enlarge my heart!

Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults.Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body.

and he said to them,“ Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

But he turned and said to Peter,“ Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said,“ You shall not covet.”But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead.

Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.Only let us hold true to what we have attained.

Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.

The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me.For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me.So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin.For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good.So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. Peter said to him,“ Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.”

Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me.

Behold, I long for your precepts; in your righteousness give me life!

“ Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest’s house, and Peter was following at a distance.And when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them.Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said,“ This man also was with him.”But he denied it, saying,“ Woman, I do not know him.”And a little later someone else saw him and said,“ You also are one of them.” But Peter said,“ Man, I am not.”And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying,“ Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.”But Peter said,“ Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him,“ Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.”

You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently.Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.

Consider how I love your precepts! Give me life according to your steadfast love.

Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law.

When iniquities prevail against me, you atone for our transgressions.

I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek your servant, for I do not forget your commandments.

If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?

Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors.[ Daleth] My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to your word!
