這樣，律法與應許相反麼？斷乎不是。假使有一個能使人活的律法曾經頒賜下來，稱義就真是由於律法了。

那麼，律法和神的各樣應許是對立的嗎？絕對不是！如果一個能使人得生命的律法被賜下，義就真是本於律法了。

然則律與上帝之許相反乎、非也、若賜以能致生之律、則義誠由律矣、

曰、律法與上帝之許相反乎、非也、若所賜之法、能使人生、則恃法可稱義矣、

然則律法與天主之許相反乎、非也、若賜以能致生之律法、則人必由律法可得稱義、

然則律法豈與恩諾相牴牾乎？無是理也。蓋所賜之律法、苟能予人以生命、則吾人所恃以成義者、誠在律法之中矣。

Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law.

So is the law opposed to God’s promises? Certainly not! What if a law had been given that could give life? Then people could become right with God by obeying the law.

Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law.

Is there a conflict, then, between God’s law and God’s promises? Absolutely not! If the law could give us new life, we could be made right with God by obeying it.

Is the law therefore contrary to God’s promises? Absolutely not! For if the law had been granted with the ability to give life, then righteousness would certainly be on the basis of the law.

Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? Far from it! For if a law had been given that was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law.

Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law.

Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could make alive, verily righteousness would have been of the law.

Is the law therefore contrary to God’s promises? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that was able to give life, then righteousness would certainly be by the law.

我不廢掉神的恩；義若是藉着律法得的，基督就是徒然死了。

但以色列人追求律法的義，反得不着律法的義。

所以凡有血氣的，沒有一個因行律法能在神面前稱義，因為律法本是叫人知罪。但如今，神的義在律法以外已經顯明出來，有律法和先知為證：就是神的義，因信耶穌基督加給一切相信的人，並沒有分別。

因為不知道神的義，想要立自己的義，就不服神的義了。律法的總結就是基督，使凡信他的都得着義。摩西寫着說：「人若行那出於律法的義，就必因此活着。」惟有出於信心的義如此說：「你不要心裏說：誰要升到天上去呢？（就是要領下基督來；）

這樣，我們可說甚麼呢？律法是罪嗎？斷乎不是！只是非因律法，我就不知何為罪。非律法說「不可起貪心」，我就不知何為貪心。然而，罪趁着機會，就藉着誡命叫諸般的貪心在我裏頭發動；因為沒有律法，罪是死的。我以前沒有律法是活着的；但是誡命來到，罪又活了，我就死了。那本來叫人活的誡命，反倒叫我死；因為罪趁着機會，就藉着誡命引誘我，並且殺了我。這樣看來，律法是聖潔的，誡命也是聖潔、公義、良善的。既然如此，那良善的是叫我死嗎？斷乎不是！叫我死的乃是罪。但罪藉着那良善的叫我死，就顯出真是罪，叫罪因着誡命更顯出是惡極了。

我因律法，就向律法死了，叫我可以向神活着。

這樣，我們因信廢了律法嗎？斷乎不是！更是堅固律法。

斷乎不能！不如說，神是真實的，人都是虛謊的。如經上所記：你責備人的時候，顯為公義；被人議論的時候，可以得勝。

我們若求在基督裏稱義，卻仍舊是罪人，難道基督是叫人犯罪的嗎？斷乎不是！

「莫想我來要廢掉律法和先知。我來不是要廢掉，乃是要成全。我實在告訴你們，就是到天地都廢去了，律法的一點一畫也不能廢去，都要成全。所以，無論何人廢掉這誡命中最小的一條，又教訓人這樣做，他在天國要稱為最小的。但無論何人遵行這誡命，又教訓人遵行，他在天國要稱為大的。我告訴你們，你們的義若不勝於文士和法利賽人的義，斷不能進天國。」

斷乎不是！若是這樣，神怎能審判世界呢？

就熱心說，我是逼迫教會的；就律法上的義說，我是無可指摘的。只是我先前以為與我有益的，我現在因基督都當作有損的。不但如此，我也將萬事當作有損的，因我以認識我主基督耶穌為至寶。我為他已經丟棄萬事，看作糞土，為要得着基督；並且得以在他裏面，不是有自己因律法而得的義，乃是有信基督的義，就是因信神而來的義，

挪亞因着信，既蒙神指示他未見的事，動了敬畏的心，預備了一隻方舟，使他全家得救。因此就定了那世代的罪，自己也承受了那從信而來的義。
