Certain people came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers:“ Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.”

We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.

Now, Lord, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live.”But the Lord replied,“ Is it right for you to be angry?”

But God said to Jonah,“ Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?”“ It is,” he said.“ And I’m so angry I wish I were dead.”

On the contrary, they recognized that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been to the circumcised.

“ Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them.

So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.

To my shame I admit that we were too weak for that! Whatever anyone else dares to boast about— I am speaking as a fool— I also dare to boast about.Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they Abraham’s descendants? So am I.Are they servants of Christ?( I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again.Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one.Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea,I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers.I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked.Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches.

So the men were sent off and went down to Antioch, where they gathered the church together and delivered the letter.The people read it and were glad for its encouraging message.Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the believers.After spending some time there, they were sent off by the believers with the blessing of peace to return to those who had sent them.

Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that broke out when Stephen was killed traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, spreading the word only among Jews.

I have made a fool of myself, but you drove me to it. I ought to have been commended by you, for I am not in the least inferior to the“ super-apostles,” even though I am nothing.

I do not think I am in the least inferior to those“ super- apostles.”

Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said,“ My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day.”At this the high priest Ananias ordered those standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth.Then Paul said to him,“ God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! You sit there to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!”Those who were standing near Paul said,“ How dare you insult God’s high priest!”Paul replied,“ Brothers, I did not realize that he was the high priest; for it is written:‘ Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.’”

But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron,“ Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.”

Jesus replied,“ Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.

We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.

James, Cephas and John, those esteemed as pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcised.

Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark, with them,but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work.They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus,

When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in front of them all,“ You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?
