波斯王居鲁士元年，耶和华为要应验藉耶利米的口所说的话，就激发波斯王居鲁士的心，使他下诏书通告全国，说：“波斯王居鲁士如此说：耶和华天上的神已将地上万国赐给我，又委派我在犹大的耶路撒冷为他建造殿宇。你们中间凡作他子民的，可以上犹大的耶路撒冷去，重建耶和华—以色列神的殿，他是在耶路撒冷的神；愿神与这人同在。凡存留的人，无论寄居何处，那地的人要用金银、财物、牲畜帮助他，还要为耶路撒冷神的殿甘心献上礼物。”

“所罗巴伯的手立了这殿的根基，他的手也必完成这工，你就知道万军之耶和华差遣我到你们这里。

你们要上山取木料，建造这殿，我就因此喜乐，且得荣耀。这是耶和华说的。

那时，撒拉铁的儿子所罗巴伯、约撒答的儿子约书亚大祭司，和所有幸存的百姓都听从耶和华—他们神的话，就是哈该先知奉耶和华—他们神差遣所说的话；百姓在耶和华面前存敬畏的心。耶和华的使者哈该奉耶和华差遣对百姓说：“我与你们同在。这是耶和华说的。”耶和华激发撒拉铁的儿子犹大省长所罗巴伯、约撒答的儿子约书亚大祭司，和所有幸存百姓的心，他们就来为万军之耶和华—他们神的殿做工。

但所罗巴伯、耶书亚和其余以色列的族长对他们说：“我们建造神的殿与你们无关，因为我们要照波斯王居鲁士所吩咐的，自己为耶和华—以色列的神协力建造。”

他们到了耶路撒冷神殿的第二年，二月的时候，撒拉铁的儿子所罗巴伯，约萨达的儿子耶书亚和其余的弟兄，就是祭司和利未人，以及所有被掳归回耶路撒冷的人，就开工建造；他们派二十岁以上的利未人，监督建造耶和华殿的工作。

我举目观看，看哪，有一人手拿丈量的绳。我问：“你到哪里去？”他对我说：“要去丈量耶路撒冷，看有多宽多长。”看哪，与我说话的天使出去，另有一位天使迎着他来，对他说：“你跑去告诉这个年轻人说，耶路撒冷必有人居住，如同无城墙的乡村，因为其中的人和牲畜很多。

“你要晓谕撒拉铁的儿子犹大省长所罗巴伯、约撒答的儿子约书亚大祭司，和所有幸存的百姓，说：‘你们中间存留的，有谁见过这殿从前的荣耀呢？现在你们看如何？在你们眼中岂不是如同无有吗？所罗巴伯啊，现在，你当刚强！这是耶和华说的。约撒答的儿子约书亚大祭司啊，你当刚强！这是耶和华说的。这地的百姓啊，你们都当刚强做工，因为我与你们同在。这是万军之耶和华说的。这是照着你们出埃及时我与你们立约的话。我的灵仍要住在你们中间，你们不必惧怕。万军之耶和华如此说：过些时候，我必再一次震动天地、沧海与干地。我必震动万国，万国的珍宝都必运来，我就使这殿充满荣耀。这是万军之耶和华说的。银子是我的，金子也是我的。这是万军之耶和华说的。这后来的殿的荣耀必大过先前的荣耀。这是万军之耶和华说的。在这地方我必赐平安。这是万军之耶和华说的。’”大流士王第二年九月二十四日，耶和华的话临到哈该先知，说：“万军之耶和华如此说，你要向祭司请教律法，说：‘看哪，若有人用衣服的边兜圣肉，这衣服的边接触了饼，或汤，或酒，或油，或别的食物，这些是否成为圣呢？’”祭司回答说：“不。”哈该又说：“若有人因摸尸体染了不洁净，然后接触任何东西，这东西就变为不洁净吗？”祭司回答说：“必不洁净。”于是哈该说：“耶和华说，在我面前这民如此，这国也是如此；他们手里的各样工作都是如此；他们在那里所献的都不洁净。”“现在，你们心里要想一想，从今日起，耶和华的殿还没有一块石头放在石头上的情况。

论居鲁士说：‘他是我的牧人，他要成就我所喜悦的，下令建造耶路撒冷，发命令立稳圣殿的根基。’”

我又举目观看，看哪，有四辆马车从两座山的中间出来；那两座山是铜山。第一辆车套着红马，第二辆车套着黑马，第三辆车套着白马，第四辆车套着带斑点的马，都是强壮的。我就回应与我说话的天使说：“主啊，这是什么意思？”天使回答，对我说：“这是天的四风，是从全地之主面前出来的。”套着黑马的车往北方之地去，白马跟随在后；有斑点的马往南方之地去；那些壮马出来，急着要在地上巡逻。天使说：“你们只管在地上巡逻。”它们就在地上巡逻。他又呼叫我，告诉我说：“你看，往北方地去的已在北方之地使我放心。”耶和华的话临到我，说：“你要拿从巴比伦归来的被掳之人黑玳、多比雅、耶大雅所献的，当日就要进到西番雅的儿子约西亚的家里，拿这金银做冠冕，戴在约撒答的儿子约书亚大祭司的头上；对他说，万军之耶和华如此说：‘看哪，那名称为大卫苗裔的，要在本处生长，并要建造耶和华的殿。就是他，要建造耶和华的殿，他要承受尊荣，坐在位上掌王权；又有一位祭司坐在自己的位上，两职之间筹划和平。这冠冕要归希连、多比雅、耶大雅，和西番雅的儿子贤，放在耶和华的殿里作为纪念。’”远方的人要来建造耶和华的殿，你们因此就知道，万军之耶和华差遣我到你们这里来。你们若留意听从耶和华—你们神的话，这事必然成就。
