Now when these things were done, the princes drew near unto me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.

Women in like manner must be grave, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.

In the prophets of Jerusalem also I have seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies; and they strengthen the hands of evil- doers, so that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them become unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.

Now Eli was very old; and he heard all that his sons did unto all Israel, and how that they lay with the women that did service at the door of the tent of meeting.And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings from all this people.Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make Jehovah’s people to transgress.

But ye are turned aside out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble in the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith Jehovah of hosts.Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have had respect of persons in the law.

for both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith Jehovah.

and Azariah begat Seraiah, and Seraiah begat Jehozadak;And Jehozadak went into captivity, when Jehovah carried away Judah and Jerusalem by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.

And he shall take a wife in her virginity.A widow, or one divorced, or a profane woman, a harlot, these shall he not take: but a virgin of his own people shall he take to wife.And he shall not profane his seed among his people: for I am Jehovah who sanctifieth him.

And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son- in- law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.

They shall not take a woman that is a harlot, or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband: for he is holy unto his God.
