While Ezra was praying and confessing, weeping and throwing himself down before the house of God, a large crowd of Israelites— men, women and children— gathered around him. They too wept bitterly.

耶穌走近耶路撒冷的時候，看見了城，就為城哀哭，

於是我轉向主神，禁食，披麻蒙灰，藉祈禱和懇求尋求他。我向耶和華我的神禱告、認罪，說：“主啊！偉大可畏的神，你向那些愛你（“你”原文作“他”），遵守你（“你”原文作“他”）誡命的人守約施慈愛。

“那時他們就會承認自己的罪孽和他們祖先的罪孽，就是他們對我不忠的過犯，又承認因為行事與我的心意相違，以致我也與他們作對，把他們帶到他們的仇敵之地。如果他們未受割禮的心這樣謙卑下來，情願接受他們罪孽的刑罰，

我向你承認我的罪，沒有隱藏我的罪孽；我說：“我要向耶和華承認我的過犯”；你就赦免我的罪孽。（細拉）

但願我的頭是水井，我的眼是淚的泉源；我好為我同胞（“同胞”原文作“人民的女子”）中被殺的，晝夜哭泣。（本節在《馬索拉文本》為8:23）

“我必把那恩慈與懇求的靈傾注在大衛家和耶路撒冷居民的身上。他們必仰望我，就是他們所刺的；他們要為他哀哭，好像喪獨生子；他們必為他悲痛，好像喪長子。

你要召集人民、男人、女人、孩子，以及你城裡的寄居者，叫他們可以聽見，叫他們可以學習，好敬畏耶和華你們的神，謹守遵行這律法的一切話，

你們預備好要說的話，歸向耶和華，對他說：“除去我們一切罪孽，悅納我們的禱告。這樣我們就把嘴唇的果子獻上。

那時全猶大的人，連他們的嬰孩、妻子和兒女，都站在耶和華面前。
