所以要治死你們在地上的肢體，就如淫亂、污穢、邪情、惡慾和貪心，貪心就是拜偶像。因著這些事，神的忿怒必要臨到悖逆的人（有些抄本無“悖逆的人”）。你們從前在其中生活的時候，也曾經這樣行過。但現在你們要除去忿怒、惱怒、惡毒、毀謗，以及粗言穢語這一切事。不要彼此說謊，因為你們已經脫去了舊人和舊人的行為，

他們必不再因自己的偶像和可憎的像，以及一切過犯，而玷污自己；我必拯救他們脫離一切背道的罪（“背道的罪”有古卷作“他們在其中犯罪的住處”）；我必潔淨他們，他們就必作我的子民，我必作他們的神。

神的殿和偶像怎能協調呢？我們就是永生神的殿，正如神說：“我要住在他們中間，在他們中間來往；我要作他們的神，他們要作我的子民。”
