它的荫影遮盖了群山，它的枝条遮盖了高大的香柏树。

耶和华必安慰锡安，他要安慰它的一切荒场，使它的旷野像伊甸园一样，使它的荒地像耶和华的园子一般，在其中必有欢喜快乐、感谢和歌声。

在伊甸所有的树木中，有谁的荣美和高大能与你相比呢？然而你却要与伊甸的树木一同下到地的深处。你要在没有受割礼的人中，与被刀剑所杀的人一同躺卧。这树就是法老和他的众民。这是主耶和华说的。’”

拉伯沙基对他们说：“你们去对希西家说：‘亚述大王这样说：你所倚靠的算得是什么倚靠呢？我说：你打仗所用的谋略和能力，不过是虚话罢了。你到底倚靠谁，以致你背叛我呢？看哪！你所倚靠的埃及，是那压伤的芦苇杖；人若倚靠它，它就会插进他的手，把手刺透。埃及王法老对所有倚靠他的人，也是这样。你若对我说：我们倚靠耶和华我们的神，这神所有的邱坛和祭坛岂不是都给希西家废去了，他还对犹大和耶路撒冷的人说：你们只要在这祭坛面前敬拜吗？现在你可以与我的主人亚述王打赌：我给你二千匹马，看你这一方面能否派出足够骑马的人来。若不能，你怎能击退我主的臣仆中最小的军长呢？你竟倚靠埃及的战车和马兵吗？现在，我上来攻打这地，要把这地毁灭，岂没有耶和华的意思吗？耶和华曾对我说：你要上去攻打这地，把它毁灭。’”以利亚敬、舍伯那和约亚对拉伯沙基说：“请你用亚兰语对你的仆人说话，因为我们听得懂；不要用犹大语对我们说话，免得城墙上的人民听见。”但拉伯沙基说：“我主差派我来，只是对你和你的主说这些话吗？不也是对那些坐在城墙上，要和你们一同吃自己的粪、喝自己的尿的人说吗？”于是拉伯沙基站着，用犹大语大声呼喊说：“你们要听亚述大王的话，王这样说：‘你们不要被希西家欺骗了，因为他决不能拯救你们；也不要给希西家说服你们倚靠耶和华，说：耶和华必定拯救我们，这城也必不交在亚述王的手中。’不要听希西家的话，因为亚述王这样说：‘你们要与我和好（“与我和好”直译是“向我祝福问安”），出来向我投降，这样各人就可以吃自己葡萄树和无花果树的果子，也可以喝自己井里的水；等到我来的时候，就会把你们领到一个与你们本地一样的地方；就是一个有五谷和新酒的地方，一个有粮食和葡萄园的地方。你们要小心，免得希西家怂恿你们说：耶和华必拯救我们。列国的神有哪一位曾拯救自己的国土脱离亚述王的手呢？

我曾看见强暴的恶人兴旺，像树木在本土茂盛。

但亚述并没有这样想过，他心里也没有这样打算；他心里倒想毁灭、剪除多国。因为他说：“在我手下的众领袖不都是王吗？迦勒挪不是像迦基米施吗？哈玛不是像亚珥拔吗？撒玛利亚不是像大马士革吗？我的手伸展到这些充满偶像的国，他们雕刻的像比耶路撒冷和撒玛利亚的还多。我怎样对待撒玛利亚和其中的偶像，不也照样对待耶路撒冷和其中的偶像吗？”主在锡安山和耶路撒冷成全了他一切工作的时候，他必说：我要惩罚亚述王自大的心所结的果子，和他眼目高傲的态度。因为他说：“我靠着我手的能力和我的智慧行事，因为我很聪明；我挪移了列国的地界，抢夺了他们积蓄的财宝，并且我像个勇士般使他们的居民全都俯伏下来。我的手伸到列国的财宝那里，好像抓到鸟窝一样；我取得了全地，好像人拾起被弃的雀蛋；没有动翅膀的，没有张嘴的，也没有鸣叫的。”

你必定听过亚述列王向列国所行的，就是把她们完全毁灭，难道你还有救吗？我列祖所毁灭的国，有歌撒、哈兰、利色和在提．拉撒的伊甸人，这些国的神曾拯救她们吗？哈马的王、亚珥拔的王、西法瓦音城的王、希拿和以瓦的王，现在都在哪里呢？”
