耶和華說：「你們在耶路撒冷街頭四處看看，在廣場找找，如果你們能找到一個公正誠實的人，我就赦免這城。

祂因無人、無一個人主持公道而驚訝，於是親自伸出臂膀，以自己的公義施行拯救。

因此祂說要消滅他們。若不是祂所揀選的摩西為他們求情，祂早已在烈怒中毀滅了他們。

你不要阻止我，我要向他們發烈怒，毀滅他們。我要使你的後代成為大國。」摩西懇求他的上帝耶和華說：「耶和華啊，你為什麼要向你的子民發烈怒呢？這些子民是你親自用神蹟和大能從埃及領出來的。難道你要讓埃及人議論說你領他們出來是出於惡意，是為了在山野之間殺掉他們，從地上滅絕他們嗎？求你息怒，施憐憫，不要降禍給你的子民。求你顧念你的僕人亞伯拉罕、以撒和以色列，你曾憑自己向他們起誓說，『我必使你們的後代像天上的星星那麼多。我應許給你們後代的這整片土地，我必賜給他們作永遠的產業。』」耶和華聽了摩西的話，就心生憐憫，不把所說的災禍降在百姓身上。

耶和華對我說：「就算摩西和撒母耳站在我面前求情，我也不會憐憫這些百姓。你把他們從我面前趕走吧！

沒有上去堵住缺口，也沒有重建以色列的圍牆，使以色列在耶和華的日子來臨時的爭戰中堅立。

我環顧四周，驚訝地看見無人幫助，無人扶持。於是，在烈怒的推動下，我用臂膀獨自拯救。

亞伯拉罕上前說：「你要把義人和惡人一同毀滅嗎？倘若城中有五十個義人，你還要毀滅那城嗎？你會不會為了五十個義人而饒恕那座城呢？你絕不會黑白不分，把義人和惡人一同毀滅。你是普天下的審判者，難道不秉公行事嗎？」耶和華回答說：「倘若我在所多瑪城中找到五十個義人，我就要因他們的緣故饒恕全城。」亞伯拉罕說：「主啊，雖然我渺小如灰塵，但我還要大膽地求問你，倘若只有四十五個義人，你會因為少了五個義人而毀滅全城嗎？」耶和華說：「倘若我在城裡找到四十五個義人，我也不會毀滅那城。」亞伯拉罕又說：「倘若在那裡找到四十個義人呢？」耶和華說：「為了那四十個人的緣故，我不會毀滅那城。」亞伯拉罕說：「求主不要發怒，容許我再問一次，倘若在那裡只找到三十個義人呢？」耶和華說：「倘若在那裡只找到三十個，我也不會毀滅那城。」亞伯拉罕說：「我大膽再問一次，倘若在那裡只找到二十個義人呢？」耶和華說：「為了那二十個人的緣故，我也不會毀滅那城。」亞伯拉罕又說：「求主不要發怒，讓我問最後一次，倘若在那裡只找到十個義人呢？」耶和華說：「為了那十個人的緣故，我也不會毀滅那城。」
