尼布甲尼撒王曾叫他指着神起誓，他却背叛，硬着颈项，内心顽固，不归向耶和华—以色列的神。

“有一只大鹰，翅膀大，羽毛多。看哪，葡萄树从栽种它的苗圃向这鹰伸出根来，长出枝子，期盼从它得到浇灌。

只是王不可为自己加添马匹，也不可为加添马匹使百姓回埃及去，因耶和华曾对你们说：‘不可再回那条路去。’

你若不归顺巴比伦王的官长，这城必交在迦勒底人手中。他们必用火焚烧，你也不得脱离他们的手。”

你必不能逃脱他的手，定被拿住，交在他手中。你要亲眼看到巴比伦王，他要亲口跟你说话，你也必到巴比伦去。

因此，耶和华向耶路撒冷和犹大发怒，以致把他们从自己面前赶出去。西底家背叛巴比伦王，

他轻看誓言，背弃盟约，看哪，虽已投降，却又做这一切的事，他必不能逃脱。

“人必将你的后妃和你的儿女带到迦勒底人那里；你也不得脱离他们的手，必被巴比伦王的手捉住，这城也必被火焚烧。”

你要说，主耶和华如此说：这棵葡萄树岂能发旺呢？鹰岂不拔出它的根来，摘光它的果子，使它枯干，连长出的嫩叶都枯萎了吗？要把它连根拔除，并不需要费大力或动用许多人。

法老的军队已经从埃及出来，那围困耶路撒冷的迦勒底人听见这风声，就拔营离开耶路撒冷去了。耶和华的话临到耶利米先知，说：“耶和华—以色列的神如此说：你们要对派你们来求问我的犹大王如此说：‘看哪，那出来帮助你们的法老军队必回埃及本国去。

犹大王西底家必不能逃脱迦勒底人的手，定要交在巴比伦王手中，他要亲眼看到巴比伦王，亲口跟他说话。

你这亵渎行恶的以色列王啊，你的日子，最后惩罚的时刻已来临。

我们若忽略这么大的救恩，怎能逃避呢？这拯救起先是主亲自讲的，后来是听见的人给我们证实了。

为要使你进入耶和华—你神的约，就是耶和华—你神今日向你起誓所立的；这样，他今日要立你作他的子民，他作你的神，是照他向你所应许的，又照他向你列祖亚伯拉罕、以撒、雅各所起的誓。我不单单与你们立这约，起这誓，就是今日与我们一同站在耶和华—我们神面前的，而且也包括今日不在我们这里的人。

耶和华说：“祸哉！这悖逆的儿女。他们同谋，却不出于我，结盟，却不出于我的灵，以致罪上加罪。他们没有寻求我的指示，就起身下埃及去，要倚靠法老的庇护坚固自己，并投在埃及的荫下。但法老的庇护反成为你们的羞辱；你们投在埃及荫下，反使你们惭愧。他们的领袖已在琐安，他们的使臣到了哈内斯。

神啊，你必使恶人坠入灭亡的坑；那好流人血、行诡诈的人必活不过半生，但我要倚靠你。

祸哉！那些下埃及求帮助的，他们仰赖马匹，倚靠甚多的战车，并倚靠强壮的骑兵，却不仰望以色列的圣者，也不求问耶和华。其实，耶和华有智慧，他降灾祸，并不撤回自己的话，却要兴起攻击作恶之家，攻击那帮助人作恶的。埃及人不过是人，并非神，他们的马不过是血肉，并不是灵。耶和华一伸手，那帮助人的必绊跌，受帮助的也必跌倒，都一同灭亡。

地啊，地啊，地啊，当听耶和华的话！耶和华如此说：“要把这人登记为无子，是平生不得亨通的人；因为他后裔中再无一人得亨通，能坐在大卫的宝座上治理犹大。”

你们这些蛇啊，毒蛇的孽种啊，怎能逃脱地狱的惩罚呢？

作假见证的，难免受罚；口吐谎言的，不能逃脱。

看哪，你所倚靠的埃及是那断裂的苇杖，人若倚靠这杖，它就刺进他的手，穿透它。埃及王法老向所有倚靠他的人都是这样。你若对我说：我们倚靠耶和华—我们的神，希西家岂不是将神的丘坛和祭坛废去，且吩咐犹大和耶路撒冷的人说：你们只当在这一个坛前敬拜吗？现在你与我主亚述王打赌，我给你两千匹马，看你能否派得出骑士来骑它们。若不然，怎能使我主臣仆中最小的一个军官转脸而逃呢？你难道要倚靠埃及的战车和骑兵吗？
