那一年、當猶大王西底家開始掌國政的第四年五月，基遍人押朔的兒子神言人哈拿尼雅在永恆主殿中當着祭司和眾民面前告訴我說：

永恆主說：『惡人並沒有平安。』

惟獨惡人、好像翻騰的海；因不能平靜，其水就翻騰出髒泡沬和淤泥來。我的上帝說：『惡人並沒有平安福利。』

若有神言人傳平安為神言，就要等到話語應驗的時候，人才知道那神言人實在是永恆主所差遣的。』於是神言人哈拿尼雅將神言人耶利米脖子上的軛取下來，給折斷了。哈拿尼雅又當着眾民面前說：『永恆主這麼說：兩年以內、我也必這樣從列國人的脖子上折斷巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒的軛。』但神言人耶利米卻逕自走他的路而去。神言人哈拿尼雅把神言人耶利米脖子上的軛折斷了以後，有永恆主的話傳與耶利米說：『你去告訴哈拿尼雅說：「永恆主這麼說：你折斷了木的軛，我卻要作鐵的軛來代替它。因為萬軍之永恆主以色列之上帝這麼說：我已將鐵的軛加在這些國的脖子上，使他們服事巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒，他們總要服事他，連田野間的走獸、我也給了他。」』於是神言人耶利米對神言人哈拿尼雅說：『哈拿尼雅啊，你要聽；永恆主並沒有差遣你；你、竟使這人民倚靠着虛假。因此永恆主這麼說：「看吧，我必打發你離開塵世；就在今年、你就一定死；因為你說了叛逆永恆主的話。」』就在那年七月間、神言人哈拿尼雅就死了。
