“ Son of man, the people of Jerusalem have spoken about you. They have spoken about the others the Babylonians have taken away. They have also spoken about all the other people of Israel. The people of Jerusalem have said,‘ Those people are far away from the Lord. This land was given to us. And it belongs to us.’

“ Son of man, the people of Jerusalem have said of your fellow exiles and all the other Israelites,‘ They are far away from the Lord; this land was given to us as our possession.’

“ Son of man, your brothers, even your brothers, your kinsmen, the whole house of Israel, all of them, are those of whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said,‘ Go far from the Lord; to us this land is given for a possession.’

“ Son of man, the people still left in Jerusalem are talking about you and your relatives and all the people of Israel who are in exile. They are saying,‘ Those people are far away from the Lord, so now he has given their land to us!’

“ Son of man, your own relatives, those who have the right to redeem your property, along with the entire house of Israel— all of them— are those to whom the residents of Jerusalem have said,‘ You are far from the LORD; this land has been given to us as a possession.’

“ Son of man, your brothers, your relatives, your fellow exiles, and the entire house of Israel, all of them, are those to whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said,‘ Keep far from the Lord; this land has been given to us as a possession.’

“ Son of man, your brethren, your relatives, your countrymen, and all the house of Israel in its entirety, are those about whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said,‘ Get far away from the Lord; this land has been given to us as a possession.’

Son of man, thy brethren, even thy brethren, the men of thy kindred, and all the house of Israel, all of them, are they unto whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Get you far from Jehovah; unto us is this land given for a possession.

“ Son of man, your own relatives, those who have the right to redeem you, and the entire house of Israel, all of them, are those that the residents of Jerusalem have said this to,‘ Stay away from the Lord; this land has been given to us as a possession.’

Son of man, thy brethren,[ even] thy brethren, the men of thy kindred, and all the house of Israel wholly,[ are] they unto whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Get you far from the LORD: unto us is this land given in possession.

“ Son of man, your brothers, your relatives, and the whole house of Israel, all of them are those to whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said,‘ They have gone far away from the LORD; to us this land has been given as a possession.’

“ Son of man, your brothers, even your brothers, the men of your relatives, and all the house of Israel, all of them, are they to whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said,‘ Go far away from Yahweh. This land has been given to us for a possession.’”

“ Son of man, here is what the people living in Israel’s broken- down buildings are saying.‘ Abraham was only one man. But he owned the land. We are many people. The land must certainly belong to us.’

You will be thrown out of the synagogue. In fact, the time is coming when someone may kill you. And they will think they are doing God a favor.

Listen to the word of the Lord. Listen, you who tremble with fear when he speaks. He says,“ Some of your own people hate you. They turn their backs on you because you are faithful to me. They make fun of you and say,‘ Let the Lord show his glory by saving you. Then we can see how happy you are.’ But they will be put to shame.

King Jehoiachin was forced to leave Jerusalem. He was the son of Jehoiakim. Jehoiachin was taken to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. The officials and all the skilled workers were forced to leave with him. After they left, the Lord showed me two baskets of figs. They were in front of his temple.One basket had very good figs in it. They were like figs that ripen early. The other basket had very bad figs in it. In fact, they were so bad they couldn’t even be eaten.Then the Lord asked me,“ What do you see, Jeremiah?”“ Figs,” I answered.“ The good ones are very good. But the others are so bad they can’t be eaten.”Then a message from the Lord came to me. The Lord said,“ I am the Lord, the God of Israel. I say,‘ I consider the people who were forced to leave Judah to be like these good figs. I sent them away from this place. I forced them to go to Babylon.

They say,‘ Keep away! Don’t come near us! We are too sacred for you!’ Those people are like smoke in my nose. They are like a fire that keeps burning all day.
