会堂的主管因为耶稣在安息日治病，就很生气，对众人说：“有六天应当做工，那六天之内可以来求医，在安息日却不可。”主回答他：“假冒为善的人哪，难道你们各人在安息日不解开槽上的牛和驴，牵去喝水吗？

以色列人还在旷野的时候，发现有一个人在安息日捡柴。发现他捡柴的人把他带到摩西、亚伦以及全会众那里。他们把他收押在监里，因为还不知道要怎样惩罚他。耶和华吩咐摩西说：“这人应当处死；全会众要在营外用石头打死他。”于是全会众把他带到营外，用石头打死他，是照耶和华所吩咐摩西的。

任何人干犯摩西的律法，凭两个或三个证人，尚且必须处死，不得宽赦，更何况践踏上帝儿子的人，他们将那使他成圣之约的血当作不洁净，又亵慢施恩的圣灵的人，你们想，他不该受更严厉的惩罚吗？

所以犹太人迫害耶稣，因为他在安息日做了这些事。

既然那藉着天使所传的话是确定的，凡违背不听从的，都受了该受的报应；我们若忽略这么大的救恩，怎能逃避呢？这拯救起先是主亲自讲的，后来是听见的人给我们证实了。

“‘当守安息日为圣日，正如耶和华—你上帝所吩咐的。六日要劳碌做你一切的工，但第七日是向耶和华—你的上帝当守的安息日。这一日，你和你的儿女、仆婢、牛、驴、牲畜，以及你城里寄居的客旅，都不可做任何的工，使你的仆婢可以和你一样休息。你要记念你在埃及地作过奴仆，耶和华—你的上帝用大能的手和伸出来的膀臂领你从那里出来。因此，耶和华—你的上帝吩咐你守安息日。
