以色列人在曠野的時候，有一個人在安息日撿柴。遇見他撿柴的人，就把他帶到摩西、亞倫和全體會眾那裡。他們把他收在監裡，因為要怎樣辦他，還未明朗。耶和華對摩西說：“那人必須處死，全體會眾要在營外用石頭把他打死。”於是全體會眾把他拉出營外，用石頭把他打死，正如耶和華吩咐摩西的。

六日之內，你要作你的工；但第七日你要安息，好使你的牛和驢可以歇息，並且使你婢女的兒子和寄居的也可以有時間喘息一下。

如果有人干犯了摩西的律法，憑著兩三個證人，他尚且得不到憐憫而死；何況是踐踏神的兒子，把那使他成聖的立約的血當作俗物，又侮辱施恩的聖靈的人，你們想想，他不是應該受更嚴厲的刑罰嗎？

從此猶太人就迫害耶穌，因為他常常在安息日作這些事。

那透過天使所傳講的信息既然是確定的，所有干犯和不聽從的，都受了應得的報應。如果我們忽略了這麼大的救恩，怎麼能逃罪呢？這救恩起初是由主親自宣講的，後來聽見的人給我們證實了。

“‘要遵守安息日為聖日，照著耶和華你神吩咐你的。六日要勞碌，作你一切工作。但第七日是屬於耶和華你神的安息日；這一日，你和你的兒女、僕婢、牛驢和一切牲畜，以及你城裡的寄居者，不可作任何的工，好使你的僕婢可以和你一樣享受安息。你要記住：你在埃及地作過奴僕；耶和華你的神用大能的手和伸出來的膀臂，把你從那裡領出來，因此耶和華你的神吩咐你要守安息日。
