會堂主管看到耶穌在安息日為人治病，十分惱怒，就對眾人說：「一週有六天可以工作，求醫應當在這六天之內，不可在安息日！」主說：「你們這些偽君子，莫非你們在安息日不解開棚裡的牛和驢，帶牠們去喝水嗎？

以色列人在曠野的時候，發現有人在安息日撿柴，他們就把撿柴的人帶到摩西、亞倫和全體會眾那裡，把他關起來，因為不知道如何處置他。耶和華對摩西說：「必須處死那人，全體會眾要在營外用石頭打死他。」於是，全體會眾照耶和華對摩西的吩咐，把他拉到營外，用石頭打死了他。

人違犯摩西的律法，經兩三個人指證後，尚且被毫不留情地處死，更何況人踐踏上帝的兒子，輕看那使人聖潔的立約之血，又藐視賜人恩典的聖靈？這等人該受多麼重的刑罰啊！

因為耶穌在安息日給人治病，猶太人開始迫害祂。

既然藉天使傳下來的話正確無誤，凡干犯、違背的人都受到了應有的報應，我們若忽略了這麼大的救恩，怎能逃避懲罰呢？這救恩首先由主親口宣講出來，後來由聽見的人向我們證實了。

「『要遵照你的上帝耶和華的吩咐守安息日為聖日。你一週可工作六天，但第七天是你的上帝耶和華的安息日，你和兒女、僕婢、牛驢等牲畜以及你那裡的外族人在這一天不可做任何工，好讓僕婢和你一樣得到休息。要記住，你曾在埃及做奴隸，你的上帝耶和華伸出臂膀，用大能的手把你從那裡領出來。因此，你的上帝耶和華吩咐你守安息日。
