耶和華聞了那馨香的氣味，就心裡說：“我必不再因人的緣故咒詛這地（因為人從小時開始心中所想的都是邪惡的）；我也必不再照著我作過的，擊殺各樣的活物。

以撒問他父親亞伯拉罕說：“爸爸！”亞伯拉罕回答：“我兒！有甚麼事？”以撒說：“你看，火與柴都有了，可是獻燔祭用的羊羔在哪裡呢？”

有一次，王到基遍去獻祭，因為那裡有極大的邱壇。所羅門在那祭壇上獻上了一千燔祭。

有火從耶和華面前出來，燒盡了祭壇上的燔祭和脂肪；眾民看見了，就大聲歡呼，俯伏在地。

於是有耶和華的火降下來，吞滅了燔祭、木柴、石頭和塵土，連溝裡的水也燒乾了。

我們要用全心、全意、全力去愛他，並且要愛人如己，這就比一切燔祭和各樣祭物好得多了。”

要憑著愛心行事，好像基督愛我們，為我們捨己，當作馨香的供品和祭物獻給神。

耶和華說：“你們獻上眾多祭物，對我有甚麼益處呢？公綿羊的燔祭和肥畜的脂肪，我已經夠了；公牛、羊羔和公山羊的血，我都不喜悅。

神說：“帶著你的兒子，就是你所愛的獨生子以撒，到摩利亞地去，在我所要指示你的一座山上，把他獻為燔祭。”

燔祭和贖罪祭，不是你所喜悅的；那時我說：‘看哪！我來了，經卷上已經記載我的事，神啊！我來是要遵行你的旨意。’”前面說：“祭品和禮物，燔祭和贖罪祭，不是你所要的，也不是你所喜悅的。”這些都是按照律法獻的；接著又說：“看哪！我來了，是要遵行你的旨意。”可見他廢除那先前的，為要建立那後來的。我們憑著這旨意，藉著耶穌基督一次獻上他的身體，就已經成聖。

我不是因你的祭物責備你，你的燔祭常在我面前。

撒母耳就牽來一隻還在吃奶的羊羔，把牠作全牲的燔祭獻給耶和華，又為以色列人向耶和華呼求，耶和華就應允他。

從示巴來的乳香，從遠地出的菖蒲，獻給我有甚麼益處呢？你們的燔祭不蒙悅納，你們的祭祀我不喜悅。”

萬軍之耶和華以色列的神這樣說：“你們儘管把燔祭加在平安祭上，自己吃祭肉吧！因為我把你們列祖從埃及地領出來的那日，燔祭和平安祭的事，我並沒有向他們提說，也沒有吩咐他們。

你要從他們手中接過來，向著祭壇把這些東西燒在燔祭之上，在耶和華面前作馨香之氣，這是獻給耶和華的火祭。

亞伯拉罕舉目觀望，看見在後面有一隻公綿羊，兩角扣在稠密的小樹叢中；亞伯拉罕就去取了那隻公綿羊，把牠獻為燔祭，代替自己的兒子。

你們所送的我都全數收到了，而且綽綽有餘；我已經足夠了，因我從以巴弗提收到你們所送的，好像馨香之氣，是神所接納所喜悅的祭物。

然後要拿著兩個翅膀把鳥撕裂，只是不可撕斷。祭司要把牠放在祭壇，在炭火上的木柴上面焚燒，作為燔祭，就是獻給耶和華馨香的火祭。”
