以和平之繩索竭力保守聖靈所賜合而為一的心。因為只有一個身體、一位聖靈，正如你們的蒙召也只憑着一個指望而蒙召，只有一位主、一樣信仰、一樣洗禮、一位上帝、就是萬人的父、那超越萬有、貫徹萬有、在萬有之中的。但是恩典賜給我們每一個人、卻是按照基督白白的恩之分量。所以經上說：『他升上了高處，擄了無數的俘虜，將贈品賜給人。』（說「他升上」去，除非說他曾降到地底下的境界、是甚麼意思呢？那降下的、就是那升上去、遠超諸天、以充滿萬有的。）他賜給人的、有的做使徒，有的做神言傳講師，有的做傳福音者，有的做牧人做教師，為給聖徒裝備以作服役的事，以建立基督的身體，直到我們眾人對上帝的兒子都有一致的信仰和認識，能夠長大成人，滿有基督的豐滿成年身材的量，使我們不再做孩童、像波浪漂來漂去，被各樣教義的風帶前帶後，就是人用欺騙手段、用狡猾施展謬妄之詭計造出來的。但我們總要以愛心持守真理，各方面長大、直到長成了基督：基督就是元首。本着他，全身藉着所供應的各關節、照每一部分、依其分量、所運用的效力、互相聯接，彼此結聯，使身體漸漸長大，在愛中建立自己。
