And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall surely be punished.

“ When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod, and the slave dies under his abuse, the owner must be punished.

And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished.

“ If a man strikes his servant or his maid with a rod, and he dies under his hand, the man shall surely be punished.

You must not show pity; the principle will be a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, and a foot for a foot.

If Cain is to be avenged seven times as much, then Lamech seventy-seven times!”

for it is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be in fear, for it does not bear the sword in vain. It is God’s servant to administer retribution on the wrongdoer.

“ If a man strikes the eye of his male servant or his female servant so that he destroys it, he will let the servant go free as compensation for the eye.If he knocks out the tooth of his male servant or his female servant, he will let the servant go free as compensation for the tooth.

They lament,‘ Why don’t you notice when we fast? Why don’t you pay attention when we humble ourselves?’ Look, at the same time you fast, you satisfy your selfish desires, you oppress your workers.Look, your fasting is accompanied by arguments, brawls, and fistfights. Do not fast as you do today, trying to make your voice heard in heaven.

But the LORD said to him,“ All right then, if anyone kills Cain, Cain will be avenged seven times as much.” Then the LORD put a special mark on Cain so that no one who found him would strike him down.

“ Whoever sheds human blood, by other humans must his blood be shed; for in God’s image God has made humankind.”

A servant cannot be corrected by words, for although he understands, there is no answer.

The avenger of blood himself must kill the murderer; when he meets him, he must kill him.

“ Whoever kills any person, the murderer must be put to death by the testimony of witnesses; but one witness cannot testify against any person to cause him to be put to death.Moreover, you must not accept a ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death; he must surely be put to death.And you must not accept a ransom for anyone who has fled to a town of refuge, to allow him to return home and live on his own land before the death of the high priest.“ You must not pollute the land where you live, for blood defiles the land, and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed there, except by the blood of the person who shed it.
