Then he said,“ Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have contended with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

You descendants of Abraham, His servant, You sons of Jacob, His chosen ones!He is the Lord our God; His judgments are in all the earth.He has remembered His covenant forever, The word which He commanded to a thousand generations,The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac.Then He confirmed it to Jacob as a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant,Saying,“ To you I will give the land of Canaan As the portion of your inheritance,”When they were only a few people in number, Very few, and strangers in it.And they wandered from nation to nation, From one kingdom to another people,

Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You; According to the greatness of Your power, let those who are doomed to die remain.

To show mercy to our fathers, And to remember His holy covenant,The oath which He swore to our father Abraham,

Therefore You handed them over to their enemies who oppressed them, But when they cried out to You in the time of their distress, You heard from heaven, and according to Your great compassion You gave them people who saved them from the hand of their enemies.But as soon as they had rest, they did evil again before You; Therefore You abandoned them to the hand of their enemies, so that they ruled over them. When they cried out again to You, You heard from heaven, And many times You rescued them according to Your compassion,

And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said,“ Jacob, Jacob.” And he said,“ Here I am.”Then He said,“ I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there.I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also assuredly bring you up again; and Joseph will close your eyes.”

I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you.

And when the Lord raised up judges for them, the Lord was with the judge and saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the Lord was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who tormented and oppressed them.
