But select capable men from all the people— men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain— and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.

But choose men of ability from all the people. They must have respect for God. You must be able to trust them. They must not try to get money by cheating others. Appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.

Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.

But select from all the people some capable, honest men who fear God and hate bribes. Appoint them as leaders over groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten.

But you should select from all the people able men, God-fearing, trustworthy, and hating dishonest profit. Place them over the people as commanders of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens.

Furthermore, you shall select out of all the people able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place these over them as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.

They returned to Jerusalem.He commanded them, saying,“ You shall do this in the fear of Yahweh, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.Whenever any controversy comes to you from your brothers who dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and ordinances, you must warn them, that they not be guilty toward Yahweh, and so wrath come on you and on your brothers. Do this, and you will not be guilty.

You shall make judges and officers in all your gates, which Yahweh your God gives you, according to your tribes; and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.You shall not pervert justice. You shall not show partiality. You shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.

The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spoke to me,‘ One who rules over men righteously, who rules in the fear of God,

he who hasn’t lent to them with interest, hasn’t taken any increase from them, who has withdrawn his hand from iniquity, has executed true justice between man and man,

Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

Joseph said to them the third day,“ Do this, and live, for I fear God.

“ Run back and forth through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in its wide places, if you can find a man, if there is anyone who does justly, who seeks truth, then I will pardon her.

having eyes full of adultery, and who can’t cease from sin; enticing unsettled souls; having a heart trained in greed; children of cursing;forsaking the right way, they went astray, having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of wrongdoing;

I was a father to the needy. I researched the cause of him who I didn’t know.

With him were ten princes, one prince of a fathers’ house for each of the tribes of Israel; and they were each head of their fathers’ houses among the thousands of Israel.

Ahab called Obadiah, who was over the household.( Now Obadiah feared Yahweh greatly;

It will happen, as soon as I leave you, that Yahweh’s Spirit will carry you I don’t know where; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he can’t find you, he will kill me. But I, your servant, have feared Yahweh from my youth.

These are the things that you shall do: speak every man the truth with his neighbor. Execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates,

He wouldn’t for a while, but afterward he said to himself,‘ Though I neither fear God, nor respect man,

Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this great people of yours?”This request pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.God said to him,“ Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have you asked for riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice;behold, I have done according to your word. Behold, I have given you a wise and understanding heart; so that there has been no one like you before you, and after you none will arise like you.

He who walks righteously and speaks blamelessly, he who despises the gain of oppressions, who gestures with his hands, refusing to take a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of blood, and shuts his eyes from looking at evil—

Take wise men of understanding who are respected among your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.”You answered me, and said,“ The thing which you have spoken is good to do.”So I took the heads of your tribes, wise and respected men, and made them heads over you, captains of thousands, captains of hundreds, captains of fifties, captains of tens, and officers, according to your tribes.I commanded your judges at that time, saying,“ Hear cases between your brothers and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the foreigner who is living with him.You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike. You shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.”

But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation, a snare, and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.But you, man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.

“ Thus has Yahweh of Armies spoken, saying,‘ Execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother.

Don’t gather my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloodthirsty men;in whose hands is wickedness, their right hand is full of bribes.

This is the end of the matter. All has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.

I put my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the governor of the fortress, in charge of Jerusalem; for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.

He said,“ Don’t lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”

His sons didn’t walk in his ways, but turned away after dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice.

“ You shall not follow a crowd to do evil. You shall not testify in court to side with a multitude to pervert justice.You shall not favor a poor man in his cause.“ If you meet your enemy’s ox or his donkey going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again.If you see the donkey of him who hates you fallen down under his burden, don’t leave him. You shall surely help him with it.“ You shall not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.“ Keep far from a false charge, and don’t kill the innocent and righteous; for I will not justify the wicked.“ You shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds those who have sight and perverts the words of the righteous.“ You shall not oppress an alien, for you know the heart of an alien, since you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

A throne will be established in loving kindness. One will sit on it in truth, in the tent of David, judging, seeking justice, and swift to do righteousness.

If they blow just one, then the princes, the heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves to you.

He will appoint them to him for captains of thousands, and captains of fifties; and he will assign some to plow his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and the instruments of his chariots.

Justice is turned away backward, and righteousness stands far away; for truth has fallen in the street, and uprightness can’t enter.Yes, truth is lacking; and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Yahweh saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice.

Also I said,“ The thing that you do is not good. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God, because of the reproach of the nations our enemies?

Here I am. Witness against me before Yahweh, and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Of whose hand have I taken a bribe to make me blind my eyes? I will restore it to you.”They said,“ You have not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have you taken anything from anyone’s hand.”

No one sues in righteousness, and no one pleads in truth. They trust in vanity, and speak lies. They conceive mischief, and give birth to iniquity.

“ If I have despised the cause of my male servant or of my female servant, when they contended with me,

I coveted no one’s silver, gold, or clothing.

he who doesn’t lend out his money for usury, nor take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be shaken.

In rebellion, a land has many rulers, but order is maintained by a man of understanding and knowledge.

saying,“ There was a judge in a certain city who didn’t fear God, and didn’t respect man.

In you have they taken bribes to shed blood. You have taken interest and increase, and you have greedily gained of your neighbors by oppression, and have forgotten me,” says the Lord Yahweh.

not a drinker, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;
