Now Jethro, the priest of Midian and father-in-law of Moses, heard of everything God had done for Moses and for his people Israel, and how the Lord had brought Israel out of Egypt.

Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came to draw water and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.

Meanwhile, Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.

You are the God who works wonders; you revealed your strength among the peoples.With power you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah

Who can declare the LORD’s mighty acts or proclaim all the praise due him?

“ This Moses, whom they rejected when they said, Who appointed you a ruler and a judge?— this one God sent as a ruler and a deliverer through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.This man led them out and performed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, at the Red Sea, and in the wilderness for forty years.

He brought his people out with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy.

Then he remembered the days of the past, the days of Moses and his people. Where is he who brought them out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock? Where is he who put his Holy Spirit among the flock?He made his glorious strength available at the right hand of Moses, divided the water before them to make an eternal name for himself,and led them through the depths like a horse in the wilderness, so that they did not stumble.

He cleared a path for his anger. He did not spare them from death but delivered their lives to the plague.He struck all the firstborn in Egypt, the first progeny of the tents of Ham.He led his people out like sheep and guided them like a flock in the wilderness.He led them safely, and they were not afraid; but the sea covered their enemies.

He struck all the firstborn in their land, all their first progeny.Then he brought Israel out with silver and gold, and no one among his tribes stumbled.Egypt was glad when they left, for the dread of Israel had fallen on them.He spread a cloud as a covering and gave a fire to light up the night.They asked, and he brought quail and satisfied them with bread from heaven.He opened a rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a stream in the desert.

God, we have heard with our ears— our ancestors have told us— the work you accomplished in their days, in days long ago:

For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings you completely destroyed across the Jordan.

We will not hide them from their children, but will tell a future generation the praiseworthy acts of the LORD, his might, and the wondrous works he has performed.

They replied to him,“ Your servants have come from a faraway land because of the reputation of the LORD your God. For we have heard of his fame, and all that he did in Egypt,

I will boast in the LORD; the humble will hear and be glad.

The LORD of Armies says this:“ In those days, ten men from nations of every language will grab the robe of a Jewish man tightly, urging: Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”

They simply kept hearing,“ He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith he once tried to destroy.”And they glorified God because of me.

Yet he saved them for his name’s sake, to make his power known.He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; he led them through the depths as through a desert.He saved them from the power of the adversary; he redeemed them from the power of the enemy.Water covered their foes; not one of them remained.

After they arrived and gathered the church together, they reported everything God had done with them and that he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.

Moses agreed to stay with the man, and he gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses in marriage.

Moses said to Hobab, descendant of Reuel the Midianite and Moses’s relative by marriage,“ We’re setting out for the place the LORD promised,‘ I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will treat you well, for the LORD has promised good things to Israel.”

The LORD answered Moses,“ See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother will be your prophet.You must say whatever I command you; then Aaron your brother must declare it to Pharaoh so that he will let the Israelites go from his land.But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart and multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt.Pharaoh will not listen to you, but I will put my hand into Egypt and bring the military divisions of my people the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment.The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the Israelites from among them.”So Moses and Aaron did this; they did just as the LORD commanded them.Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.The LORD said to Moses and Aaron,“ When Pharaoh tells you,‘ Perform a miracle,’ tell Aaron,‘ Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh. It will become a serpent.’”So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD had commanded. Aaron threw down his staff before Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a serpent.But then Pharaoh called the wise men and sorcerers— the magicians of Egypt, and they also did the same thing by their occult practices.Each one threw down his staff, and it became a serpent. But Aaron’s staff swallowed their staffs.However, Pharaoh’s heart was hard, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had said.Then the LORD said to Moses,“ Pharaoh’s heart is hard: He refuses to let the people go.Go to Pharaoh in the morning. When you see him walking out to the water, stand ready to meet him by the bank of the Nile. Take in your hand the staff that turned into a snake.

Now Heber the Kenite had moved away from the Kenites, the sons of Hobab, Moses’s father-in-law, and pitched his tent beside the oak tree of Zaanannim, which was near Kedesh.

For I would not dare say anything except what Christ has accomplished through me by word and deed for the obedience of the Gentiles,

After greeting them, he reported in detail what God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry.When they heard it, they glorified God and said,“ You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are who have believed, and they are all zealous for the law.

Remember the wondrous works he has done, his wonders, and the judgments he has pronounced,

When they returned to their father Reuel, he asked,“ Why have you come back so quickly today?”

The whole assembly became silent and listened to Barnabas and Paul describe all the signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles.

Then Moses went back to his father-in-law, Jethro, and said to him,“ Please let me return to my relatives in Egypt and see if they are still living.” Jethro said to Moses,“ Go in peace.”

This city will bear on my behalf a name of joy, praise, and glory before all the nations of the earth, who will hear of all the prosperity I will give them. They will tremble with awe because of all the good and all the peace I will bring about for them.

You performed signs and wonders against Pharaoh, all his officials, and all the people of his land, for you knew how arrogantly they treated our ancestors. You made a name for yourself that endures to this day.You divided the sea before them, and they crossed through it on dry ground. You hurled their pursuers into the depths like a stone into raging water.
