Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink. There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test.

So Moses cried out to the Lord for help, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. Moses threw it into the water, and this made the water good to drink. It was there at Marah that the Lord set before them the following decree as a standard to test their faithfulness to him.

他们留在那里，为要藉着他们试验以色列人，要知道他们是否听从耶和华藉摩西吩咐他们列祖的诫命。

法老走近的时候，以色列人举目观看，看见埃及人正追赶过来，就非常惧怕，向耶和华呼求。

你也要记念耶和华你的神这四十年在旷野引导你的一切路程，为要使你受苦，要试炼你，要知道你心里怎样，看看你肯守他的诫命不肯。

耶和华对摩西说：“看哪，我要把粮食从天上降给你们；人民可以出去，每天收取当天的分量，我好试验他们是否遵行我的律法。

神啊！你试炼了我们，熬炼了我们，如同熬炼银子一般。

这些国的人是耶和华留下的，为要藉着他们来试验以色列人，就是所有没有经验过迦南任何战争的人；

为要藉着他们试验以色列人，看他们肯不肯谨守遵行耶和华的道路，像他们的列祖一样谨守。”

他在旷野把你的列祖不认识的吗哪赐给你吃，是要使你受苦，要试炼你，使你终久得到福乐；

他说：“拿些面给我。”他把面放在锅中，说：“倒出来给众人吃吧。”锅里就没有毒了。

摩西向耶和华呼求，说：“我要怎样对待这人民呢？他们几乎要用石头打死我了。”

他就出去到水源那里，把盐倒在那里，然后说：“耶和华这样说：‘我已经医好了这水，从此不再有人死亡，地也不再没有出产了。’”

在他的祭司中有摩西和亚伦，在求告他名的人中有撒母耳；他们求告耶和华，他就应允他们。

你不可听从那先知或作梦的人的话；因为耶和华你们的神试验你们，要知道你们是不是一心一意爱耶和华你们的神。

因为十字架的道理，对走向灭亡的人来说是愚笨的，但对我们这些得救的人，却是神的大能。

众民对约书亚说：“不，我们必定事奉耶和华。”约书亚对众民说：“你们选择了耶和华，要事奉他，你们为自己作证吧。”他们说：“我们愿意作证。”约书亚说：“现在你们要除掉在你们中间外族人的神，一心归向耶和华以色列的神。”众民对约书亚说：“我们必事奉耶和华我们的神，必听从他的话。”那一天，约书亚就与众民立约，在示剑为他们订立律例和典章。

耶和华对我说：“即使摩西和撒母耳站在我面前代求，我的心也不会转向这人民。你把他们从我面前赶走，叫他们出去！

你在患难中呼求，我就搭救你；我在打雷的密云中回答你，在米利巴的水边试验你。”（细拉）

因此，万军之耶和华这样说：“看哪！我要熬炼他们，试验他们；因我子民（“我子民”原文作“我子民的女子”）的罪恶，我还可以作什么呢？

他求告我，我必应允他；他在患难中，我必与他同在；我必拯救他，使他得尊荣。

因此，你们要喜乐。然而，你们现今在各种试炼中或许暂时会难过，是要叫你们的信心经过试验，就比那被火炼过，仍会朽坏的金子更宝贵，可以在耶稣基督显现的时候，得著称赞、荣耀和尊贵。

用锅炼银，用炉炼金；唯有耶和华锻炼人心。

在患难的日子，你呼求我。我必搭救你，你也必尊敬我。”
