So the Egyptians made the Israelites their slaves. They appointed brutal slave drivers over them, hoping to wear them down with crushing labor. They forced them to build the cities of Pithom and Rameses as supply centers for the king.

Our ancestors went down to Egypt, and we lived there a long time, and we and our ancestors were brutally mistreated by the Egyptians.

Pharaoh replied,“ Moses and Aaron, why are you distracting the people from their tasks? Get back to work!Look, there are many of your people in the land, and you are stopping them from their work.”That same day Pharaoh sent this order to the Egyptian slave drivers and the Israelite foremen:
