Now these are the numbers of the divisions equipped for war, who came to David at Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the Lord. The sons of Judah who carried shield and spear numbered 6,800, equipped for war. From the sons of Simeon, valiant mighty men of war, 7,100.From the sons of Levi, 4,600.Now Jehoiada was the leader of the house of Aaron, and with him were 3,700,also Zadok, a young valiant mighty man, and from his father’s house, twenty two captains. From the sons of Benjamin, Saul’s kinsmen, three thousand; for until now the majority of them had kept their allegiance to the house of Saul. From the sons of Ephraim 20,800, valiant mighty men, famous men in their fathers’ households. From the half tribe of Manasseh eighteen thousand, who were designated by name to come and make David king. From the sons of Issachar, men who understood the times, with knowledge of what Israel should do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their kinsmen were at their command. From Zebulun, there were fifty thousand who went out in the army, who could draw up in battle formation with all kinds of weapons of war and helped David with an undivided heart. From Naphtali there were a thousand captains, and with them thirty seven thousand with shield and spear. From the Danites who could draw up in battle formation, there were 28,600.From Asher there were forty thousand who went out in the army to draw up in battle formation. From the other side of the Jordan, from the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, there were 120,000 with all kinds of weapons of war for the battle. All of these, being men of war who helped in battle formation, came to Hebron with a perfect heart to make David king over all Israel; and all the rest of Israel also were of one mind to make David king. They were there with David for three days, eating and drinking, for their kinsmen had prepared for them. Moreover, those who were near to them, as far as Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali, brought food on donkeys, camels, mules, and on oxen, great quantities of flour cakes, fig cakes and bunches of raisins, wine, oil, oxen, and sheep. Genesis 49:3-27
“ Reuben, you are my firstborn, My might and the beginning of my strength, Preeminent in dignity and preeminent in power.Uncontrollable as water, you shall not have preeminence, Because you went up to your father’s bed; Then you defiled it— he went up to my couch.“ Simeon and Levi are brothers; Their swords are implements of violence.May my soul not enter into their council; May my glory not be united with their assembly; For in their anger they killed men, And in their self will they lamed oxen.Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce; And their wrath, for it is cruel. I will scatter them in Jacob, And disperse them among Israel.“ As for you, Judah, your brothers shall praise you; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your father’s sons shall bow down to you.Judah is a lion’s cub; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He crouches, he lies down as a lion, And as a lion, who dares to stir him up?The scepter will not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. He ties his foal to the vine, And his donkey’s colt to the choice vine; He washes his garments in wine, And his robes in the blood of grapes. His eyes are dull from wine, And his teeth white from milk.“ Zebulun will reside at the seashore; And he shall be a harbor for ships, And his flank shall be toward Sidon.“ Issachar is a strong donkey, Lying down between the sheepfolds. When he saw that a resting place was good And that the land was pleasant, He bowed his shoulder to carry burdens, And became a slave at forced labor.“ Dan shall judge his people, As one of the tribes of Israel.Dan shall be a serpent in the way, A horned viper in the path, That bites the horse’s heels, So that its rider falls backward. For Your salvation I wait, Lord.“ As for Gad, a band of raiders shall attack him, But he will attack at their heels.“ As for Asher, his food shall be rich, And he will yield royal delicacies.“ Naphtali is a doe let loose; He utters beautiful words.“ Joseph is a fruitful branch, A fruitful branch by a spring; Its branches hang over a wall. The archers provoked him, And shot at him and were hostile toward him;But his bow remained firm, And his arms were agile, From the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob( From there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel),From the God of your father who helps you, And by the Almighty who blesses you With blessings of heaven above, Blessings of the deep that lies beneath, Blessings of the breasts and of the womb. The blessings of your father Have surpassed the blessings of my ancestors Up to the furthest boundary of the everlasting hills; May they be on the head of Joseph, And on the top of the head of the one distinguished among his brothers.“ Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; In the morning he devours the prey, And in the evening he divides the spoils.”

Genesis 29:31-30:21
Now the Lord saw that Leah was unloved, and He opened her womb, but Rachel was unable to have children.Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and named him Reuben, for she said,“ Because the Lord has seen my affliction; surely now my husband will love me.”Then she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and said,“ Because the Lord has heard that I am unloved, He has therefore given me this son also.” So she named him Simeon. And she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and said,“ Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore he was named Levi. And she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and said,“ This time I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped having children. Now when Rachel saw that she had not borne Jacob any children, she became jealous of her sister; and she said to Jacob,“ Give me children, or else I am going to die.”Then Jacob’s anger burned against Rachel, and he said,“ Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?”Then she said,“ Here is my female slave Bilhah: have relations with her that she may give birth on my knees, so that by her I too may obtain a child.”So she gave him her slave Bilhah as a wife, and Jacob had relations with her.Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son. Then Rachel said,“ God has vindicated me, and has indeed heard my voice and has given me a son.” Therefore she named him Dan.And Rachel’s slave Bilhah conceived again and bore Jacob a second son.So Rachel said,“ With mighty wrestling I have wrestled with my sister, and I have indeed prevailed.” And she named him Naphtali. When Leah saw that she had stopped having children, she took her slave Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife. And Leah’s slave Zilpah bore Jacob a son. Then Leah said,“ How fortunate!” So she named him Gad.And Leah’s slave Zilpah bore Jacob a second son. Then Leah said,“ Happy am I! For women will call me happy.” So she named him Asher. Now in the days of wheat harvest Reuben went and found mandrake fruits in the field, and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah,“ Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”But she said to her,“ Is it a small matter for you to take my husband? And would you take my son’s mandrakes also?” So Rachel said,“ Therefore he may sleep with you tonight in return for your son’s mandrakes.”When Jacob came in from the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him and said,“ You must have relations with me, for I have indeed hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” So he slept with her that night.God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son. Then Leah said,“ God has given me my reward, because I gave my slave to my husband.” So she named him Issachar. And Leah conceived again and bore a sixth son to Jacob. Then Leah said,“ God has endowed me with a good gift; finally my husband will acknowledge me as his wife, because I have borne him six sons.” So she named him Zebulun.Afterward she gave birth to a daughter, and named her Dinah.
