In every province to which the edict and order of the king came, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting, weeping and wailing. Many lay in sackcloth and ashes.

All the Jews were very sad. They didn’t eat anything. They wept and cried. Many of them put on the rough clothing people wear when they’re sad. They were lying down in ashes. They did all these things in every territory where the king’s order and law had been sent.

And in every province, wherever the king’s command and his decree reached, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting and weeping and lamenting, and many of them lay in sackcloth and ashes.

And as news of the king’s decree reached all the provinces, there was great mourning among the Jews. They fasted, wept, and wailed, and many people lay in burlap and ashes.

于是我转向主耶和华，以祷告、恳求、禁食、披麻蒙灰来寻求他。

因此我说：“请你转眼别看我，让我痛哭吧！不要因我子民的毁灭而强行安慰我！”

难道这就是我所喜悦的禁食，这就是让人刻苦己心的日子吗？难道是让人像芦苇一样垂着头，以麻布和灰烬为铺吗？难道这就是你所谓的禁食，这就是耶和华所悦纳的日子吗？

到那日，主万军之耶和华呼吁你们哭泣哀号、剃光头发、束上麻布。

亚哈随鲁年间，亚哈随鲁统治着从印度到库实的一百二十七个省；

“于是王吩咐仆人们：‘把他的手脚捆起来，丢到外面的黑暗里去！在那里将有哀哭和切齿。’

“你当去，把所有在苏萨中的犹太人都聚集起来，为我禁食，三天三夜不吃不喝；我和我的使女们也会如此禁食。然后我就去见王，虽然这样不符合法令；我如果因此灭亡，就灭亡吧！”

使者们来到扫罗的基比亚，把这事说给民众听，全体民众就放声大哭。

他来到的时候，看哪，以利正坐在路旁的座位上守望，因为他为神的约柜忧心。那人进城里报信时，全城都哀叫起来。以利听见呼号的声音，就问：“这喧嚣的声音是怎么回事呢？”那人赶快过来，向以利报告。

希西加王听了就撕裂自己的衣服，披上麻布，进入耶和华的殿。他派遣宫廷总管以利亚敬、书记舍伯纳和祭司中年长的，个个披上麻布，到亚摩斯的儿子先知以赛亚那里。他们对他说：“希西加如此说：‘今天是一个患难、责罚、耻辱的日子；因为婴孩已经临盆，我们却没有力气生下来。

把他们丢进火炉里。在那里将有哀哭和切齿。

一月十三日，王的书记们被召来，照着哈曼所吩咐的一切，给王的行政官们、管理各省的省长和各民族的首领下旨，用各省的文字给各个省，用各民族的语言给各个民族，以亚哈随鲁王的名义下旨，又用王的印戒封印。

把这个无用的奴仆丢到外面的黑暗里去！在那里将有哀哭和切齿。’
