When Mordecai learned of all that had been done, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the city, wailing loudly and bitterly.

Mordecai found out about everything that had been done. So he tore his clothes. He put on the rough clothing people wear when they’re sad. He sat down in ashes. Then he went out into the city. He wept out loud. He cried bitter tears.

这么多的财富，竟然在一时之间就化为乌有了！”所有的船长、所有到处航行的人、水手们、所有靠海为业的人，都远远地站着。他们看着焚烧她时的烟，呼喊说：“哪一个城能与这大城相比呢？”他们把尘土撒在自己头上，哭泣、悲伤，呼喊说：“有祸了！有祸了！宏大的城，所有靠着她在海上有船只的人都因她的财富发了财。她竟然在一时之间就化为乌有了！

以扫听了他父亲的话，就极其痛苦地号啕大哭，对父亲说：“我父啊，祝福我，也祝福我吧！”

“哥拉汛哪，你有祸了！伯赛达呀，你有祸了！因为在你们当中行过的神迹，如果行在提尔和西顿，那里的人早就会披麻蒙灰悔改了。

约拿开始进入那城，走了一天的路程，宣告说：“再过四十天，尼尼微就要覆灭了。”尼尼微人就相信神，并宣告禁食，无论尊贵的或卑微的，都披上麻布。这话语传到尼尼微王的时候，他从自己的宝座上起来，从身上脱下王袍，披上麻布，坐在灰烬中。然后他颁布谕令，说：“在尼尼微，王和大臣有令：‘无论人或牲畜，牛或羊，都不可尝什么，不可吃什么，也不可喝水。人和牲畜都当披上麻布；各人都当迫切地向神呼求，从自己邪恶的道路上、自己手里的残暴中转回。或许神会转回、施怜悯，从他猛烈的怒气中转回，使我们不致灭亡。’”

因此我说：“请你转眼别看我，让我痛哭吧！不要因我子民的毁灭而强行安慰我！”

希实本和以利亚利哀鸣，他们的声音远到雅匝也能听见。因此摩押的士兵大声喊叫，心惊胆战。

巴拿巴和保罗两位使徒听见这事，就撕裂自己的衣服，冲进人群里面，

那时在各个省，在王令和他的法令所传到的地方，犹太人都大大哀恸；他们禁食、哭泣、哀号，许多人躺在麻布和灰烬上。

哈曼对亚哈随鲁王说：“有一个民族被打散，分散在你全国各省各民族之间；他们的法令与其他所有民族的都不相同，他们也不遵行王的法令，所以留下他们对王无益。如果王认为好，就请王下旨消灭他们；我将捐出一万他连得银子，交在管理国务的人手中，归入国库。”于是王从自己手上取下印戒，交给亚甲人哈米达塔的儿子哈曼——犹太人的敌人。王对哈曼说：“那银子归于你，这民族也归于你；你看怎样好，就怎样处置他们吧！”一月十三日，王的书记们被召来，照着哈曼所吩咐的一切，给王的行政官们、管理各省的省长和各民族的首领下旨，用各省的文字给各个省，用各民族的语言给各个民族，以亚哈随鲁王的名义下旨，又用王的印戒封印。诏书藉着信使们的手传送给王的各省：要各省在十二月（亚达月）十三日，一天之内，把所有的犹太人，无论老少、孩童或妇女，都除灭、击杀、消灭，并且掠夺他们的财物。

难道这就是我所喜悦的禁食，这就是让人刻苦己心的日子吗？难道是让人像芦苇一样垂着头，以麻布和灰烬为铺吗？难道这就是你所谓的禁食，这就是耶和华所悦纳的日子吗？
