你們要謹慎，要警醒。你們的仇敵魔鬼就像咆哮的獅子走來走去，尋找可吞吃的人。你們要用堅固的信仰來抵擋它，因為你們知道，你們在世上的弟兄姐妹也都經歷著同樣的苦難。

因為凡是由神所生的，就勝過世界；而這勝過世界的勝利，就是我們的信仰。勝過世界的到底是誰呢？難道不是那相信耶穌是神兒子的嗎？

這些事以後，在異象中，耶和華的話語臨到亞伯蘭，說：「亞伯蘭哪，你不要害怕！我是你的盾牌，你的賞報將極其大。」

我害怕的時候，我要依靠你。靠著神，我要讚美他的話；依靠神，我就不害怕，血肉之軀能對我做什麼呢？

耶和華的名是堅固的塔樓，義人跑進去就安穩在高處。

靠著神，我要讚美他的話語；靠著耶和華，我要讚美他的話語。依靠神，我就不害怕，人能對我做什麼呢？

為此，神想要對那些繼承應許的人格外表明他的計劃是不能更改的，就用所起的誓來保證。藉著這兩件不能更改的事——在這些事上，神不可能說謊——使我們這些逃往避難所、抓住那擺在前面盼望的人，可以得到極大的鼓勵。

因此我們不喪膽。即使我們外在的人漸漸衰朽，我們內在的人還是日日被更新。原來我們這暫時、輕微的患難，正為我們帶來極重無比、永恆的榮耀。我們所注重的不是看得見的，而是看不見的；因為看得見的是暫時的，看不見的卻是永恆的。

我們並不是要轄制你們的信仰，而是要做你們的同工，使你們喜樂；因為你們已經因信站立得住了。

不要消滅聖靈的感動，

因著信，摩西長大以後，拒絕被稱為法老女兒的兒子。他寧願選擇與神的子民同受虐待，也不願享受暫時的罪中之樂。他把為基督受的責罵看做是比埃及的財寶更大的財富，因為他注目那將來的報償。因著信，他不怕王的憤怒，離開了埃及，因為他恆心忍耐，如同看見了不可見的那一位。因著信，他立了逾越節和灑血的禮，免得那毀滅長子的碰以色列人。因著信，他們走過了紅海，像走過乾地那樣；埃及人試著這樣做，就被吞滅了。因著信，他們圍繞耶利哥城七天，城牆就倒塌了。因著信，妓女瑞荷在平安中接納了偵察的人，沒有和那些不肯信從的人一同滅亡。我還要再說什麼呢？如果我一一述說基甸、巴拉克、叄孫、耶弗達、大衛、撒母耳和先知們的事，時間就不夠了。他們藉著信，征服了列國，行了公義，獲得了那些應許；他們堵住了獅子的口，滅了烈火的威力，逃脫了刀劍的鋒刃，從軟弱中得以剛強，在戰爭中得以強大，擊敗了外國的軍隊。
