“ In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, (niv)

He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them,“ Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?”Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron,“ Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.”These were the waters of Meribah, where the Israelites quarreled with the Lord and where he was proved holy among them. (niv)

“ Aaron will be gathered to his people. He will not enter the land I give the Israelites, because both of you rebelled against my command at the waters of Meribah. (niv)

All these officials of yours will come to me, bowing down before me and saying,‘ Go, you and all the people who follow you!’ After that I will leave.” Then Moses, hot with anger, left Pharaoh. (niv)

But Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was checked.This was credited to him as righteousness for endless generations to come.By the waters of Meribah they angered the Lord, and trouble came to Moses because of them;for they rebelled against the Spirit of God, and rash words came from Moses’ lips. (niv)

He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man,“ Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. (niv)

He said to Aaron,“ What did these people do to you, that you led them into such great sin?”“ Do not be angry, my lord,” Aaron answered.“ You know how prone these people are to evil. (niv)

When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them,“ Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. (niv)

When I heard their outcry and these charges, I was very angry.I pondered them in my mind and then accused the nobles and officials. I told them,“ You are charging your own people interest!” So I called together a large meeting to deal with themand said:“ As far as possible, we have bought back our fellow Jews who were sold to the Gentiles. Now you are selling your own people, only for them to be sold back to us!” They kept quiet, because they could find nothing to say.So I continued,“ What you are doing is not right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies?I and my brothers and my men are also lending the people money and grain. But let us stop charging interest!Give back to them immediately their fields, vineyards, olive groves and houses, and also the interest you are charging them— one percent of the money, grain, new wine and olive oil.”“ We will give it back,” they said.“ And we will not demand anything more from them. We will do as you say.” Then I summoned the priests and made the nobles and officials take an oath to do what they had promised.I also shook out the folds of my robe and said,“ In this way may God shake out of their house and possessions anyone who does not keep this promise. So may such a person be shaken out and emptied!” At this the whole assembly said,“ Amen,” and praised the Lord. And the people did as they had promised. (niv)

When Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, saw this, he left the assembly, took a spear in his handand followed the Israelite into the tent. He drove the spear into both of them, right through the Israelite man and into the woman’s stomach. Then the plague against the Israelites was stopped;but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000.The Lord said to Moses,“ Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites. Since he was as zealous for my honor among them as I am, I did not put an end to them in my zeal. (niv)

Like a north wind that brings unexpected rain is a sly tongue— which provokes a horrified look. (niv)

Pay them their wages each day before sunset, because they are poor and are counting on it. Otherwise they may cry to the Lord against you, and you will be guilty of sin. (niv)
