which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets.

The mystery was not made known to people of other times. But now the Holy Spirit has made this mystery known to God’s holy apostles and prophets.

But you, dear friends– recall the predictions foretold by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I want you to recall both the predictions foretold by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles.

From Paul, a slave of God and apostle of Jesus Christ, to further the faith of God’s chosen ones and the knowledge of the truth that is in keeping with godliness,in hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the ages began.But now in his own time he has made his message evident through the preaching I was entrusted with according to the command of God our Savior.

He said to them,“ You know that it is unlawful for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile, yet God has shown me that I should call no person defiled or ritually unclean.

because you have been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and will cause you to remember everything I said to you.

and to enlighten everyone about God’s secret plan– a secret that has been hidden for ages in God who has created all things.

Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that had been kept secret for long ages,

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he will not speak on his own authority, but will speak whatever he hears, and will tell you what is to come.

For this reason also the wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’

And these all were commended for their faith, yet they did not receive what was promised.For God had provided something better for us, so that they would be made perfect together with us.

For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

Concerning this salvation, the prophets who predicted the grace that would come to you searched and investigated carefully.They probed into what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified beforehand about the sufferings appointed for Christ and his subsequent glory.They were shown that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to the things now announced to you through those who proclaimed the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven– things angels long to catch a glimpse of.

And God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, gifts of healing, helps, gifts of leadership, different kinds of tongues.Not all are apostles, are they? Not all are prophets, are they? Not all are teachers, are they? Not all perform miracles, do they?

For one person is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, and another the message of knowledge according to the same Spirit,to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,to another performance of miracles, to another prophecy, and to another discernment of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.

It was he who gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,to equip the saints for the work of ministry, that is, to build up the body of Christ,

For I tell you that many prophets and kings longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”

It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.So Simeon, directed by the Spirit, came into the temple courts, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what was customary according to the law,

but now made visible through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus. He has broken the power of death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel!For this gospel I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher.

“ For this reason I am sending you prophets and wise men and experts in the law, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town,

While Peter was still thinking seriously about the vision, the Spirit said to him,“ Look! Three men are looking for you.But get up, go down, and accompany them without hesitation, because I have sent them.”
