更以此融成一體之二族、與天主協和於十字架上。十字架者、所以消滅一切敵對之意也。

and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.

He planned to bring both Jews and Gentiles back to God as one body. He planned to do this through the cross. On that cross, Christ put to death their hatred toward one another.

而天地萬物、皆藉基督咸得與天主重相契合、而歸於太和；而其所以致此太和者、則十字架上所流之寶血耳。爾等前因惡業向與天主睽隔；今則藉基督之死、托基督之身、而得與之融融洩洩、重相契合矣。基督且欲使爾等純潔無疵、無可指摘、而獻之於天主之前；

當時吾人尚為天主之悖逆、且得緣其聖子之死、而與天主重相契合、今既重相契合、不更能緣其永生、而承無疆之休乎？

夫舊法之所以軟弱而無能者、實肉身之情慾、為之梗也。今天主竟使其聖子成人、且具罪人之形體、為罪捨身、於是吾人肉身中之罪、乃被處決、而不復能乘權矣。

慨然將吾人之罪狀一筆鈎銷、取而釘之於十字聖架、

凡此皆天主之所賜也。天主既藉基督賜吾人復得承歡、又賜吾儕參贊重歡之事。申言之天主實寓基督內、慨然賜世人與之言歸於好、而不復計其舊惡、更簡吾儕專司重歡之道；是則吾儕代表基督、而為天主之星使、不啻天主假吾儕之口而作勸勉焉。因此、吾儕代表基督、剴切求爾、速與天主重歡。夫以毫無罪孽之基督、天主竟使其為吾人之故、成為罪孽、亦欲令吾人因基督之功、而成天主之正義云耳。

基督在肉體上既備受苦難、則爾等亦應毅然抱此宏願。蓋肉體受苦、則與罪絕緣、不復徇人欲、惟循天主聖意、以度餘生。

除法令之障。於彼之身、本族外族融成一體、以作新人、以建和平。

蓋吾已與基督同釘於十字架、而今茲生存者、不復為我、實基督假吾而生。吾今雖尚生於形體之中、亦惟憑信德而生。蓋吾固篤信愛我而為我捐軀之天主聖子也。

無他、蓋順於欲者、則逆於天主；如此自不甘服天主之法、且亦不能。

應知吾人之故我、已與之同釘於十字架上；於是罪孽之身、已蕩然毀滅、而吾人不復為罪孽之奴矣。
