So I concluded that wisdom is better than might, but a poor man’s wisdom is despised; no one ever listens to his advice.

我則曰、智愈於力、然貧者之智、為人蔑視、言不見聽、

我竊思之、智愈於力、貧者之智、為人藐忽、不從其言。

我自言曰、智慧雖愈於勇力、貧者之智慧仍被人藐忽、不聽其言、

So I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength.” But the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are no longer heeded.

So I said,“ It’s better to be wise than to be powerful.” But people look down on the poor man’s wisdom. No one pays any attention to what he says.

But I say that wisdom is better than might, though the poor man’s wisdom is despised and his words are not heard.

So even though wisdom is better than strength, those who are wise will be despised if they are poor. What they say will not be appreciated for long.

And I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength, but the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are not heeded.”

So I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength.” But the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are ignored.

Then I said:“ Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, And his words are not heard.

Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

And I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength, but the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are not heeded.”

Then said I, Wisdom[ is] better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom[ is] despised, and his words are not heard.

Then I said,“ Wisdom is better than strength.” Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

Wisdom gives a wise person more protection than ten rulers in a city.

A wise warrior is strong, and a man of knowledge makes his strength stronger;

The wise person can scale the city of the mighty and bring down the stronghold in which they trust.

When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue. Many who heard him were astonished, saying,“ Where did he get these ideas? And what is this wisdom that has been given to him? What are these miracles that are done through his hands?Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And aren’t his sisters here with us?” And so they took offense at him.

Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner can destroy much that is good.

The wealth of a rich person is like a fortified city, but the poor are brought to ruin by their poverty.

Then the Pharisees answered,“ You haven’t been deceived too, have you?None of the rulers or the Pharisees have believed in him, have they?But this rabble who do not know the law are accursed!”

Think about the circumstances of your call, brothers and sisters. Not many were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were born to a privileged position.But God chose what the world thinks foolish to shame the wise, and God chose what the world thinks weak to shame the strong.God chose what is low and despised in the world, what is regarded as nothing, to set aside what is regarded as something,so that no one can boast in his presence.

Then they summoned the man who used to be blind a second time and said to him,“ Promise before God to tell the truth. We know that this man is a sinner.”He replied,“ I do not know whether he is a sinner. I do know one thing– that although I was blind, now I can see.”Then they said to him,“ What did he do to you? How did he cause you to see?”He answered,“ I told you already and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You people don’t want to become his disciples too, do you?”They heaped insults on him, saying,“ You are his disciple! We are disciples of Moses!We know that God has spoken to Moses! We do not know where this man comes from!”The man replied,“ This is a remarkable thing, that you don’t know where he comes from, and yet he caused me to see!We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but if anyone is devout and does his will, God listens to him.Never before has anyone heard of someone causing a man born blind to see.If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”They replied,“ You were born completely in sinfulness, and yet you presume to teach us?” So they threw him out.

For if someone comes into your assembly wearing a gold ring and fine clothing, and a poor person enters in filthy clothes,do you pay attention to the one who is finely dressed and say,“ You sit here in a good place,” and to the poor person,“ You stand over there,” or“ Sit on the floor”?If so, have you not made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil motives?Listen, my dear brothers and sisters! Did not God choose the poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?But you have dishonored the poor! Are not the rich oppressing you and dragging you into the courts?
