我转眼又看到日光之下：快跑的未必赛赢，勇士未必战胜，有智慧的未必得粮食，有悟性的未必得财富，明智者未必得恩惠；因为时机和机遇胜过一切。

我又轉念：見日光之下，快跑的未必能贏；力戰的未必得勝；智慧的未必得糧食；明哲的未必得資財；靈巧的未必得喜悅。所臨到眾人的是在乎當時的機會。

我又看：在日光之下、賽跑未必給輕快的先跑到，戰爭未必給勇士得勝利，糧食也未必給智慧人得着，財富未必給明達人賺得到，恩寵也未必給有知識的人博得着：他們所碰到的就只是定時與機會。

我轉眼又看到日光之下：快跑的未必賽贏，勇士未必戰勝，有智慧的未必得糧食，有悟性的未必得財富，明智者未必得恩惠；因為時機和機遇勝過一切。

我轉觀日下、疾趨者未必先至、力戰者未必獲勝、智者未必得食、達者未必得財、有技能者未必蒙恩寵、凡事皆由時勢而成、

我又遍覽天下事、疾趨未必先至、勁旅未必獲捷、有智未必得餱糧、聰明未必得貨財、機巧未必沐恩寵、凡百之事、悉由偶然而至。

我又觀日下之事、見疾趨者未必先至、有力者未必得勝、智者未必得食、哲者未必得財、有識者未必蒙恩、凡眾所遇、或隨時會、或屬偶然、

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

Here’s something else I’ve seen on this earth. Races aren’t always won by those who run fast. Battles aren’t always won by those who are strong. Wise people don’t always have plenty of food. Clever people aren’t always wealthy. Those who have learned a lot aren’t always successful. God controls the timing of every event. He also controls how things turn out.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.

Again I saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, or bread to the wise, or riches to the discerning, or favor to the skillful; rather, time and chance happen to all of them.

耶和华如此说：“智慧人不要因他的智慧夸口，勇士不要因他的勇力夸口，财主不要因他的财物夸口。

没有人能以智慧、聪明、谋略敌挡耶和华。马是为打仗之日预备的；得胜乃在乎耶和华。

除非主命定，谁能说成就成呢？祸福不都出于至高者的口吗？

将卑微的安置在高处，将哀痛的举到稳妥之地；破坏狡猾人的计谋，使他们所谋的不得成就。他叫有智慧的中了自己的诡计，使狡诈人的计谋速速灭亡。他们白昼遇见黑暗，午间摸索如在夜间。

快跑的不能逃脱；有力的不能用力；刚勇的也不能自救。拿弓的不能站立；腿快的不能逃脱；骑马的也不能自救。到那日，勇士中最有胆量的，必赤身逃跑。”这是耶和华说的。

我心里说，神必审判义人和恶人；因为在那里，各样事务，一切工作，都有定时。

他说：“犹大众人、耶路撒冷的居民，和约沙法王，你们请听。耶和华对你们如此说：‘不要因这大军恐惧惊惶；因为胜败不在乎你们，乃在乎神。

我知道神一切所做的都必永存；无所增添，无所减少。神这样行，是要人在他面前存敬畏的心。

不要容快跑的逃避；不要容勇士逃脱；他们在北方幼发拉底河边绊跌仆倒。

君王不能因兵多得胜；勇士不能因力大得救。靠马得救是枉然的；马也不能因力大救人。

他不喜悦马的力大，不喜爱人的腿快。耶和华喜爱敬畏他和盼望他慈爱的人。

智慧人的眼目光明，愚昧人在黑暗里行。我却看明有一件事，这两等人都必遇见。我就心里说：“愚昧人所遇见的，我也必遇见，我为何更有智慧呢？”我心里说，这也是虚空。

我又见人为一切的劳碌和各样灵巧的工作就被邻舍嫉妒。这也是虚空，也是捕风。

亚希多弗见不依从他的计谋，就备上驴，归回本城；到了家，留下遗言，便吊死了，葬在他父亲的坟墓里。

押沙龙和以色列众人说：“亚基人户筛的计谋比亚希多弗的计谋更好！”这是因耶和华定意破坏亚希多弗的良谋，为要降祸与押沙龙。

我又转念，见日光之下所行的一切欺压。看哪，受欺压的流泪，且无人安慰；欺压他们的有势力，也无人安慰他们。

我转念观看智慧、狂妄，和愚昧。在王以后而来的人还能做什么呢？也不过行早先所行的就是了。

人不要夸口说骄傲的话，也不要出狂妄的言语；因耶和华是大有智识的神，人的行为被他衡量。勇士的弓都已折断；跌倒的人以力量束腰。素来饱足的，反作佣人求食；饥饿的，再不饥饿。不生育的，生了七个儿子；多有儿女的，反倒衰微。耶和华使人死，也使人活，使人下阴间，也使人往上升。他使人贫穷，也使人富足，使人卑微，也使人高贵。他从灰尘里抬举贫寒人，从粪堆中提拔穷乏人，使他们与王子同坐，得着荣耀的座位。地的柱子属于耶和华；他将世界立在其上。“他必保护圣民的脚步，使恶人在黑暗中寂然不动；人都不能靠力量得胜。与耶和华争竞的，必被打碎；耶和华必从天上以雷攻击他，必审判地极的人，将力量赐与所立的王，高举受膏者的角。”

我们也在他里面得了基业；这原是那位随己意行作万事的，照着他旨意所预定的，

所以，骄傲如链子戴在他们的项上；强暴像衣裳遮住他们的身体。他们的眼睛因体胖而凸出；他们所得的，过于心里所想的。

你要记念耶和华你的神，因为得货财的力量是他给你的，为要坚定他向你列祖起誓所立的约，像今日一样。

你要察看神的作为；因神使为曲的，谁能变为直呢？

那时你们必归回，将善人和恶人，侍奉神的和不侍奉神的，分别出来。”

“他使人安静，谁能扰乱呢？他掩面，谁能见他呢？无论待一国或一人都是如此。

世上所有的居民都算为虚无；在天上的万军和世上的居民中，他都凭自己的意旨行事。无人能拦住他手，或问他说：“你做什么呢？”

在那里有洗鲁雅的三个儿子：约押、亚比筛、亚撒黑。亚撒黑脚快如野鹿一般；亚撒黑追赶押尼珥，直追赶他不偏左右。押尼珥回头说：“你是亚撒黑吗？”回答说：“是。”押尼珥对他说：“你或转向左转向右，拿住一个少年人，剥去他的战衣。”亚撒黑却不肯转开不追赶他。押尼珥又对亚撒黑说：“你转开不追赶我吧！我何必杀你呢？若杀你，有什么脸见你哥哥约押呢？”亚撒黑仍不肯转开。故此，押尼珥就用枪鐏刺入他的肚腹，甚至枪从背后透出，亚撒黑就在那里仆倒而死。众人赶到亚撒黑仆倒而死的地方，就都站住。

这样，大卫用机弦甩石，胜了那非利士人，打死他；大卫手中却没有刀。
