我轉眼又看到日光之下：快跑的未必賽贏，勇士未必戰勝，有智慧的未必得糧食，有悟性的未必得財富，明智者未必得恩惠；因為時機和機遇勝過一切。

我又转念：见日光之下，快跑的未必能赢；力战的未必得胜；智慧的未必得粮食；明哲的未必得资财；灵巧的未必得喜悦。所临到众人的是在乎当时的机会。

我转而回顾日光之下，快跑的未必能赢，强壮的未必战胜，智慧的未必得粮食，聪明的未必得财富，有学问的未必得人喜悦，全在乎各人遇上的时候和机会。

我又看见在日光之下，跑得快的未必得奖，勇士未必战胜，智慧的未必得粮食，精明的未必致富，博学的未必得人赏识，因为时机和际遇左右众人。

我转眼又看到日光之下：快跑的未必赛赢，勇士未必战胜，有智慧的未必得粮食，有悟性的未必得财富，明智者未必得恩惠；因为时机和机遇胜过一切。

我又轉念：見日光之下，快跑的未必能贏；力戰的未必得勝；智慧的未必得糧食；明哲的未必得資財；靈巧的未必得喜悅。所臨到眾人的是在乎當時的機會。

我又看：在日光之下、賽跑未必給輕快的先跑到，戰爭未必給勇士得勝利，糧食也未必給智慧人得着，財富未必給明達人賺得到，恩寵也未必給有知識的人博得着：他們所碰到的就只是定時與機會。

我轉觀日下、疾趨者未必先至、力戰者未必獲勝、智者未必得食、達者未必得財、有技能者未必蒙恩寵、凡事皆由時勢而成、

我又遍覽天下事、疾趨未必先至、勁旅未必獲捷、有智未必得餱糧、聰明未必得貨財、機巧未必沐恩寵、凡百之事、悉由偶然而至。

我又觀日下之事、見疾趨者未必先至、有力者未必得勝、智者未必得食、哲者未必得財、有識者未必蒙恩、凡眾所遇、或隨時會、或屬偶然、

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

Here’s something else I’ve seen on this earth. Races aren’t always won by those who run fast. Battles aren’t always won by those who are strong. Wise people don’t always have plenty of food. Clever people aren’t always wealthy. Those who have learned a lot aren’t always successful. God controls the timing of every event. He also controls how things turn out.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.

Again I saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, or bread to the wise, or riches to the discerning, or favor to the skillful; rather, time and chance happen to all of them.

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning, nor favor to the skillful; for time and chance overtake them all.

Again, I observed this on the earth: the race is not always won by the swiftest, the battle is not always won by the strongest; prosperity does not always belong to those who are the wisest, wealth does not always belong to those who are the most discerning, nor does success always come to those with the most knowledge– for time and chance may overcome them all.

I returned and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.

任何的智慧、聰慧和謀略，都無法在耶和華面前站立得住。馬為戰爭之日所預備，得勝卻在於耶和華。

我心裡說：「義人和惡人，神都會審判；因為在他那裡，萬事萬務都有定時。」

我知道：神所做的一切，都必永存，無可增添，無可減少；神這樣做，是要人在他面前心存敬畏。

君王不能靠軍隊眾多得拯救，勇士不能靠力量強大得解救；靠馬得救是枉然的，馬不能靠牠的力大救人。

他喜歡的不是馬的力量，他喜悅的不是人的腳力——耶和華喜悅的是那些敬畏他的人、那些期盼他慈愛的人。

智慧人看得見他的道路，愚昧人卻在黑暗中行走。不過我也明白，同樣的命運會臨到他們這兩種人。於是我心裡說：「既然愚昧人的命運也照樣會臨到我，那麼我為什麼要更有智慧呢？」我心裡就說：「這也是虛空！」

我也看到，一切的勞苦和各樣工作的技能，都是出於人與鄰人之間的嫉妒。這也是虛空，也是捕風！

亞希多弗見自己的建議沒有被採納，就給驢子備上鞍，起身回本鄉本家去。他安排好家裡的事，然後上吊死了。他被葬在他父親的墳墓裡。

押沙龍和以色列眾人都說：「亞基人戶篩的建議比亞希多弗的建議好。」耶和華定意要破壞亞希多弗的好建議，好降災禍給押沙龍。

我轉眼又看到在日光之下所行的一切欺壓。看哪，受欺壓者流淚，無人安慰他們！權勢在欺壓他們的人手中，卻無人安慰受欺壓者！

我轉眼去看智慧、狂妄和愚昧。那在王之後來的人，到底能做什麼呢？不過是先前所做過的而已。

你們不要再說高傲自大的話，不要讓傲慢的話從你們口中出來，因為耶和華是全知的神，人的行為都被他衡量。勇士的弓被折斷，軟弱的卻以力量束腰；飽足的為食物受雇，飢餓的卻不再挨餓；不能懷孕的生了七個，兒子眾多的反倒衰頹。耶和華使人死，也使人活；使人下陰間，也使人從那裡上來。耶和華使人貧窮，也使人富有；使人降卑，也使人升高。他從塵土中興起貧弱者，從糞堆中提拔貧窮人，要使他們與高貴者同坐，使他們繼承榮耀的寶座；因為大地的支柱都屬於耶和華，他把世界安置在其上。他必保守他忠信者的腳步，惡人卻在黑暗中滅亡；人得勝不是靠著力量。耶和華必擊碎那些與他抗爭的，他將從天上打雷攻擊他們。耶和華必審判地極；他將賜力量給他所立的王，使他受膏者的角高舉。」

在基督裡，我們也得了繼業，是照著那一位的心意而預先定下的，他按著自己旨意的計劃來運作萬事，

因此自高是他們的項鏈，殘暴如衣裳披在他們的身上。他們的眼睛因體胖而凸出，心裡的妄想四處氾濫。

你當思索神的作為，因為他折彎的，誰能夠拉直呢？

那時，你們必再次看出義人與惡人、服事神的人與不服事神的人的區別。」

地上所有的居民都算為無有，他照著自己的旨意對待天上的眾軍和地上的居民。沒有人能攔住他的手，或對他說：「你做什麼？」

當時洗魯雅的三個兒子約押、亞比篩和亞撒暉都在那裡。亞撒暉腿腳敏捷，如同野羚羊。亞撒暉追趕押尼珥，不偏左右，緊跟在押尼珥後面。押尼珥回頭說：「亞撒暉，是你嗎？」他說：「是我。」押尼珥對他說：「你或轉向左或轉向右，捉住一個年輕人，奪走他的裝備吧！」但亞撒暉不肯停止追趕他。押尼珥再次對亞撒暉說：「你轉開不要追我了！我何必把你擊殺在地呢？那樣我怎麼有臉見你的哥哥約押呢？」亞撒暉不肯轉開，押尼珥就用矛尾刺入他的腹部，甚至矛從他背後穿出，亞撒暉就仆倒在那裡，當場死了；所有來到亞撒暉倒斃之處的人都站住了，

這樣大衛用投石索和石頭勝了那非利士人。大衛手中沒有刀，卻擊倒了那非利士人，殺了他。
