世上有一件虚空的事，就是义人遭受了恶人当受的报应，恶人却享受了义人该享的福乐。我认为这也是虚空。

天下事可為長太息者、有時義人遭難、幾同惡人、惡人蒙休、有類義人、我則曰、此屬於虛。

世間更有一患事、即有善人遭惡人所當遭者、有惡人遇善人所當遇者、我則曰、此亦屬於虛、

There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: the righteous who get what the wicked deserve, and the wicked who get what the righteous deserve. This too, I say, is meaningless.

Here’s something else on this earth that doesn’t have any meaning. Sometimes godly people get what sinful people should receive. And sinful people get what godly people should receive. Here’s what I’m telling you. That doesn’t have any meaning either.

There is a vanity that takes place on earth, that there are righteous people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked, and there are wicked people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

And this is not all that is meaningless in our world. In this life, good people are often treated as though they were wicked, and wicked people are often treated as though they were good. This is so meaningless!

There is a futility that is done on the earth: there are righteous people who get what the actions of the wicked deserve, and there are wicked people who get what the actions of the righteous deserve. I say that this too is futile.

There is futility which is done on the earth, that is, there are righteous people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked. On the other hand, there are evil people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I say that this too is futility.

There is a vanity which occurs on earth, that there are just men to whom it happens according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happens according to the work of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

There is a vanity which is done upon the earth, that there are righteous men unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

在我虚空的一生中，我见过义人行义，反而灭亡；恶人行恶，却享长寿。

智者高瞻远瞩，愚人却在黑暗中摸索。但我知道两者终必有同样的命运。

如今我们称狂傲的人有福，因为作恶的人凡事顺利，他们虽然试探上帝，却仍能逃过灾祸。’”

为何恶人活着，得享长寿，势力强大？

我看见狂傲的恶人亨通就心怀不平。

我仔细思想、探究这些事，就知道义人、智者及他们的行事为人都由上帝掌管，人无法知道前面等待自己的是爱还是恨。义人和恶人、好人和坏人、洁净的和污秽的、献祭的和不献祭的、行善的和犯罪的、敢于起誓的和不敢起誓的人，最终的命运都一样。在日光之下有一件可悲的事，就是人最终的命运都一样。再者，人内心都充满邪恶，活着的时候行事狂妄，最后都步入死亡。

看这些恶人，他们总是生活安逸，财富日增。我洁身自爱，保持清白，实属徒然。我天天遭灾，日日受苦。

有一个人孤孤单单，没有儿子也没有兄弟，却终身劳碌。他虽然家道丰裕，仍不满足，从未想过“我不停地劳碌，放弃一切享受，究竟是为了谁？”这也是虚空，是一种悲哀。

“恶人的灯何曾熄灭？灾难何曾临到他们？上帝何曾发怒使他们受苦？他们何曾像风中的碎秸，像被暴风卷去的糠秕？你们说上帝会把惩罚留给他们的儿女，我认为不如报应在他们本人身上，让他们亲自领教。愿他们亲眼看见自己灭亡。愿他们喝下全能者的烈怒。因为他们的岁月一旦度尽，又怎会关心身后的家人？“上帝既审判身居高位者，谁还能传授知识给祂？有人至死仍充满活力，尽享平靖安逸。他营养充足，骨骼健壮。有人至死心中苦痛，从未尝过幸福的滋味。二者都埋入尘土，被蛆虫覆盖。我知道你们的想法，并那些冤枉我的诡计。你们问，‘权贵的房子如今何在？恶人住的帐篷今在何方？’难道你们没有问过旅客，不接受他们的说法？就是恶人在灾难之日得到幸免，在上帝发怒之日得以逃脱。谁会当面斥责他们的恶行，因其所作所为而报应他们？他们被抬入坟墓后，还有人看守墓地。他们在谷中的沃土安息，送葬的人前呼后拥，不计其数。你们的空谈怎能安慰我？你们的回答纯属荒谬。”

他们恶待不育的妇人，毫不善待寡妇。但上帝用大能掳走权贵，他们再强大也难保性命。上帝让他们暂享安逸，但他们逃不过祂的眼睛。他们一时得势，转瞬消逝；他们沦为卑贱，像其他人一样灭亡，像麦穗一样被割掉。我说的都是实情，谁能否认？谁能证明我的话是空谈？”

我发现日光之下有一件可悲的事，似乎是掌权者所犯的错误：

耶和华啊，每次我与你争论，都显明你是对的。然而，我还是对你的公正有所不解：为什么恶人总是得势？为什么诡诈之人反而生活安逸？

我又看见人的一切劳碌和成就原是出于争强好胜。这也是虚空，如同捕风。

因为，我认为都是一样，纯全无过的人和恶人都会被祂毁灭。灾祸突然夺走人命时，祂嘲笑无辜者的遭遇。大地落入恶人手中，蒙敝审判官眼睛的不是祂是谁？
