有人天主賜之貲財產業尊榮、心之所欲、毫無所缺、惟天主不使之能享、他人享之、此亦屬於虛、實為大患、

God gives some people wealth, possessions and honor, so that they lack nothing their hearts desire, but God does not grant them the ability to enjoy them, and strangers enjoy them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil.

耶和華啊，求你用手使我脫離世人——他們只在今生有份：你用你所儲藏的填滿他們的肚腹；他們也因有兒女而滿足，還把剩餘的留給他們的幼兒。

他們的眼睛因體胖而凸出，心裡的妄想四處氾濫。

然後，我要對我的靈魂說：靈魂哪，你擁有了很多好東西，足以享用多年，你就休息、吃喝、慶祝吧。』「可是神對他說：『你這愚妄的人哪！今夜，他們就要召回你的靈魂了。那麼，你所預備的要歸誰呢？』

有一個人孤單無伴，連兒子和兄弟也沒有；但他各樣的勞苦卻沒有窮盡，他的眼目也不因財富而滿足；他問：「我如此勞苦，也不讓自己過好日子，到底是為了誰呢？」這也是虛空，是極重的擔子！

這也是一件令人痛心的悲苦之事，就是他來的時候怎樣，去的時候也怎樣；他為風勞苦，對他有什麼益處呢？

我也看到，一切的勞苦和各樣工作的技能，都是出於人與鄰人之間的嫉妒。這也是虛空，也是捕風！

王啊，至高神把國度、權勢、尊榮和威嚴賜給了你先王尼布甲尼撒！

我擴建工程，為自己建造房屋，種植葡萄園；我為自己造了庭園和園林，在其中栽種各樣的果樹；我為自己造了水池，用以澆灌長滿樹木的林子；我買下了男僕和婢女，我也有生在我家裡的奴僕；我還擁有大量的牛群和羊群，超過我之前在耶路撒冷的所有人；我又為自己積聚金銀，還有來自君王們和各省的珍寶。我也為自己招納了男女歌手，以及許多的妃嬪，都是世人引以為樂的。於是我日漸昌大，超越了我之前在耶路撒冷的所有人，而我的智慧仍然與我同在。我的眼目所追求的一切，我都不禁止；我的心所歡喜的一切，我都不拒絕；因為我的心在我一切的勞苦中歡喜——這就是我在一切勞苦中所得的份。

人們往來行走，只是幻像；他們喧鬧，也是虛空；他們積聚，卻不知道誰會收取。
